Can you recommend a high street bank?

I'm currently with HSBC but I'm not very happy with them. The last straw was when they accidently took £500 out of my account. Luckily I noticed the error and contacted them to get the money back.

Can you please recommend a high street bank?

The types of benefits I am looking for are: good savings rates, safety, customer service, minimal bank errors!

Thanks

You're going to struggle with your first request depending on your interpretation of 'good'.

I have been with Halifax for nearly two years and have had no problems with excellent branch, telephone and internet service.

Can say the same as the above poster. Halifax also have relatively good savings rates ... although nowhere is great now.
  • Tbh pick anyone really its only when you have a problem you would switch. Some peoples experiences will be different to others its up to you to find out.

Personally, I think nearly all banks are the same with customer service. There are exceptions, but these are exceptionally bad, not exceptionally good, and I doubt HSBC is one of them. While one error does annoy you and put you off that bank, you have to understand that someone with every other bank will have had a very similar problem. Go by the best offers only.

On the other hand, you are saying HIGH STREET bank as if the actual branch matters significantly to you. My personal rule of thumb is that you get smarter and politer staff at a branch in the centre of a city or big town (this isn't just for banks). My mum mystery shopped some branch in the middle of nowhere recently, they just tried to get rid of her. So if you have a Natwest on your street but all the main banks in the town centre, don't think Natwest is worse just because you always go to the closer one.

    I personally rate Natwest highly.
In my experiences with banks I have to say HBOS have been the worse bank I have ever encountered. My local branch service left me litrally speechless!
Abbey have good rates but as other people have said their customer service leaves alot to be desired.

I think you have to find your own way with banks and make up your own mind.
  • Thanks all. Some good advice.
