in Water bills
We have recently moved into a 3 bedroom bungalow. For the first time in our lives we find ourselves with a water meter.
There are us 2 adults and we have 2 children under 10, both have special needs and both are disabled - which is what terrifies us....
Our children cannot grasp the need for us to save water as both children also have learning difficulties my wife and i find ourselves living our lives in our bathroom, turning taps off properly and stopping kids from pulling flush before i get a bucket of rainwater to fill cistern ...
Can we get utility company to take water meter out ? it has been here since property was built 20+ years ago.
Can we get a discount due to our family circumstances ? cos we are terrified we are going to get a bill for £££££'s

Unfortunately no. I completely understand your rationale about this but I believe you may get a discount if you phone them up.
Meters are just a con. They only save money for a single person and even couples use more. No matter how little you use, you will still get charged for the cleaning of water landing on your property and going through the drains. Con!!!!Motto: 'If you don't ask, you don't get!!'
Remember to say thank you to people who help you out!
Also, thank you to people who help me out.0 -

Surface water drainage is only chargeable if you don't have soak aways. You need to check.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........

No you cannot get the meter changed.
Put a brick (water pig) in the toilet system. This helps reduce the amount of water used in each flush.
There is no harm in calling your water company and explaining your situation and concerns.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........

Not true, a thread yesterday was 99% in favour of water meters even
couples with a child. We have 3 adults in our household and we still pay
two thirds of what the bill wuld be. I wouldnt worry about it.
Do what you can yourself, put a block in the cistern so you use less water,
cut down on your washing, use washing up water to water the garden etc.
I dont think you can have a meter taken out these days, but you could ring up and ask if there any discounts available because of your circumstances.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

Completely and utterly wrong!
It totally depends on the Rateable Value(RV) of your property as well as the amount of water you use and of course the part of the country where you live.
If you have a very low RV then that might apply.
I could have 10 people in my house, all using average consumption of water, and still save money by having a meter.
Whilst the quote below is far from being accurate, it is certainly far more representative than the statement that you made.A general rule of thumb is if there are less people in your house than bedrooms (for example two people living in a four bedroom family home) then you could save money by switching to a water meter.0 -
Paying for what you use doesn't sound like a con to me. Paying water rates and using a swimming pools worth of water a day does.0

Hi boggie40 - For households with special needs there is a discounted scheme for Water Meter bills called 'WaterSure', for which you may be eligable. Phone your local water company and ask0
