Moben Kitchens - Are they any good??

Just had a Moben saleman visit and stayed for over 3 hours!! He quoted £15k at first but knocked him down to £12k.
Just wondering if anyone has had a Moben Kitchen and what their experiences of them were. Are there prices value for money? Was the quality of the kitchens good? What was workmanship like?
As much feedback as possible much appreciated.

You could do a forum search for Moben kitchens. This thread is one I picked out at random. Then google "Moben kitchen complaints".
I don't have one so can't give personal feedback. But I wouldn't let any of these companies into my home who stay for hours and make phoney telephone calls to their "managers" and drop the price by thousands during their visit. Double glazing, kitchens, conservatories, electric beds, etc., hard sell, con men are phrases that come to mind.
I would imagine you could get a good quality kitchen from a local, recommended supplier for less than a Moben. There are some recommendations on here too if you do a search.0 -
My aunt and uncle had a Moben Kitchen - it's ok quality-wise but the design is dire, not at all thought out and looks terrible. They paid £20k for it. I have a slightly bigger kitchen that I designed myself and got units from Ikea and had an independant fitter and it came in at under £5k. My units aren't as fab quality but my kitchen looks and functions far better than theirs.0

Oh and moben are the same company as Dolphin Bathrooms - they ALWAYS have a sale on and ALWAYS discount everything.
If you wait a week or two they will phone you and give you a lower price again.
I got a quote for a bathroom from them and they wanted £26 THOUSAND POUNDS. They then said oh we can do it for £12k and if you take the finance we'll knock another grand off. A week later the price was £8k. I'm having the bathroom done the way I want it with more fittings and units (which the 'designer' refused to quote me for as he said they were old fashioned and I was too young for them!!!) for £4k.
I'd steer clear, personally.0 -
Dear LMO,
Myself and the OH own an independent kitchen specialist company and I love it when a potential customer has had a Moben sales person round for hours because I know we can provide a far better quality of kitchen, designed properly and generally with better appliances than Moben ever could for the same or less money.
As other people have said, the visit you had was from a pressure sales person not a kitchen designer, who probably has no idea how to design a kitchen. A sister company is Kitchens Direct and usually if you have not ordered the kitchen from Moben you will get a call from Kitchens Direct offering you the same kitchen for 10 or 15% less, but it will still be way over what its worth.
My advice would be to find an independent kitchen specialist in your area that would preferably come with recommendations, otherwise have a look on the Miele and Neff websites for kitchen specialists in your area with direct accounts with either or both.
Good luck.0 -
Don't touch Moben with someone elses 12 foot long, scabby barge pole...
You'd be better designing and fitting it yourself and making the cabinets out of recycled toilet roll.
You get a better deal replying to an email from a Nigerian telling you that you have won the lottery...
As CKdesigner said, you'd be much better off trying a local independant...If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

My parents have a Moben kitchen, although design wasn't really an issue as my father is an architect, so he designed the layout.
I was actually there at the time of fitting and couldn't praise the fitting team enough they fitted it in a day and that included the electrician and plumber coming and then a waste lorry arrived half an hour before they finished to remove all the rubbish, I have no idea whether that experience was different to the norm but I was certainly impressed. They were also quite on the ball as they had noticed that my father had not taken into account the thickness of the fridge door, and that the whole back section needed moving over by about 15mm, not a great distance but I was impressed that they noticed early on and could make the adjustments.
I work in the building industry too and believe me this sort of common sense is not always excersised.
The only problem was that my Dad's design included a huge island, they seemed to have problems manufacturing the work top (apparently much larger than usual) for this and the first 3 arrived broken, but they did manage to get it right in the end. (that took and extra couple of weeks)
All in all though it was a good experience although of course I can't comment on the design as they didn't do any!2009 wins: Cadburys Chocolate Pack x 6, Sally Hansen Hand cream, Ipod nano! mothers day meal at Toby Carvery! :j :j :j :j0 -

my BIL had a moben kitchen installed for 5k in a tiny terraced house.

he could have got all the units for 500 quid from BQ/wickes etc... and then paid someone 500 quid to fit it.
i still laugh everytime i see it.Get some gorm.0 -

Hey, I was in a good mood when I wrote that, if I'd been in a bad mood, it would have been even more bluntIf it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

AVOID Pushy sales, offering you massive 'discounts' on kitchens that weren't worth that inflated price in the first place. I was quoted £3000 for granite worktops. Salesman left when he realised I wasn't going to sign there and then. I made one call to a worktop supplier in Preston, exactly the same spec - £1800.0
