New 08 Charges on t-mobile reason to cancel ?

    We, as consumers, are quite well protected from unfair contracts.
    Consumer Direct has spelt it out here.

    Thank you for the information and the link. It is good that there is this consumer protection in theory. However, when it comes to practice, you would have to argue for many many times with T-Mobile, write long letters, up to high levels of CS, threaten to contact OFT, contact OFT, file a complaint, etc, etc. Even though £30 is a lot of money and though the law is on your side and their T&Cs are unfair, it is probably not worth the hassle.

    The best is to leave T-Mobile after the minimum term and to choose a provider with fairer T&Cs. Again, for people reading this thread and thinking of signing a T-Mobile contract: T-Mobile reserves itself the right to change whatever charge they want (beyond basic calls and txts), no matter whether it is in detriment of the customer or not. This is extremely unfair and Three, for example, allows the customer to cancel the contract in such a situation if the change is in detriment of the customer.

    If te number is listed in your price plan and you sign a contract you agree to pay that cost for the call. If the price goes up that is not what you agreed to pay with them.

    agreed not worth the hassle, I will see out the remaining 9 months and leave. They are worse than 3(I know ive used both networks) and thats saying something

    Atleast T-mobile have UK based (Mostly, Except Manilla) Customer Services.

    There are very good UK based CS, and horrible UK based CS. 3's CS is based in India and it is quite OK (definitely not worse than T-Mobile's!). I have a Citibank current account (which I am in the process of canceling) and their India based CS is absolutely dreadful.

    I will also stay with T-Mobile, switch to their new Flext tariff (as soon as they confirm in writing that I can keep my discount) and leave as soon as the 18 months are over!

    For the sake of completeness, let me add that T-Mobile wanted me to pay £5 more for the upgrade to the new Flext 2009 tariff, because there is no Flext30 tariff any more. That my present Flext tariff has a £5 discount (free Web'n'Walk) did not matter to them.

    Then I raised the point of the increase of charges to 08 numbers and complained about their (in my view) unfair Terms and Conditions. T-Mobile was extremely friendly and constructive when dealing with my emails.

    As expected, we "agreed to disagreed": I thought their Terms unfair, T-Mobile thought them fair. However, T-Mobile suggested as a compromise to let me upgrade to the new Flext35 package and keeping my £5 discount. I think this is a very good offer, since it solves the problem with 08 numbers, I pay the same package price and I have some international calls included, which I think only T-Mobile offers. So now, although I still think their Terms are unfair, I am very happy with the solution they have offered me.
