How can I make the pond safe?“…the ‘insatiability doctrine – we spend money we don’t have, on things we don’t need, to make impressions that don’t last, on people we don’t care about.” Professor Tim Jackson

Our pond is situated under trees & so we have to clean the bottom of the pond a few times a year - as such if I get newts in the net I will keep them seperate until the process is completed as it is less stressful for them to get caught once than continuously be moving away from the net.
Also our pond has fish, frogs & newts in & although we probably don't get as many baby frogs or newts surviving as in a pond not stocked with fish we do manage to get a fair few survive through the tadpole stage.
I do agree that you have to childproof your pond if you have children or young visitors that are unsupervised, our pond is the source of many happy hours viewing the wildlife. It is also a drinking hole for the local wildlife & we get squirrels, foxes, badgers & birds all coming to visit for a drink.0
