Ive been reading another forum with interest and wondered if anyone else had encountered this
Some time in the last week or two, watching SD through the HDMI has suddenly dropped in quality (Not like it was particularly good anyways mind)
"ie. softer, more fuzzy ... less clarity"
The theory is Sky are trying to make SD look cr*pper than it is to get OTHER people to buy HD
(Same ploy thats been used from dvd to bluray recently)
Anyone encountered this recently?

I don't see how Sky could remotely degrade the quality of something played through an HDMI cable, nor do I see the logic in making Sky HD boxes worse, as the only people it would affect are those who already own them.
"Hey, come on over and look at my $hitty picture" isn't going to get more people to switch.0 -
Heres the thread Marty ~

I recall somone mentioning it on here not long ago too:idea:0 -
Thanks Rik, I would still be inclined to think !!!!-up before conspiracy though.0

Whilst I could completely believe them doing this. I've not noticed a difference with ours!!0

Me too ~ but I posted to see if we can establish if its a one off time (a glitch) or they are systematically turning down the bitrate for SD viewing (On particular channels at particular times perhaps?):idea:0 -
Strangely, I think the picture has got BETTER on Sky SD on my SkyHD box recently! (but that might be because I got the duster out...)
The output settings from your box to your TV might make a difference - mine is set to send at 1080i to my Sharp 37" 1080p.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
I believe 1080i is the best setting due to the skybox FORCING it to deinterlace in other modes (And its deinterlacer software is cr*p):idea:0

I've noticed no difference in quality at all in the standard of SD content.
Rik, have you tried running a spyware scan on your HD box?
Edit - also leopard, I have BBC HD over freesat (using a cheap compro DVB-S card) and Sky, and the difference in quality isn't noticable.0 -
1 ~ Ive NO intentions of EVER having sky (theyre complete ar*eholes to my mind)
2 ~ Everyone with a decent setup as said that Freesat has better quality channels than the equivalent sky so id guess your setup isnt very good:idea:0
