1. Its not party political - for every Labour "sleaze" case on expenses I raise you Dover, Conway, Wintertons etc etc.
2. As I understand most of the cases its not "sleaze" as they're operating inside the rather lax guidelines. What we need to do is lobby the Standards Commissioner to tighten the rules up rather than berate MPs for claiming expenses they're entitled to.
Go on then, raise me

Well that's the straw that's broke the Camels back, I was a labour supporter and I feel really let down by the behaviour of our members of parliament, so I will no longer vote for them, and equally the other party's appear to be the same they are all on the take. So its with deep regret my voting days are over.Low Carb High Fat is the way forward I lost 80 lbs

Trouble is, your then giving the party who have the current seat in parliament, the easiest vote they could ever get. The apathy vote.0 -

And how many of those 19 are in breech of the rules? Look, I think the rules are patently stupid, but if they allow an MP to claim money and he/she does so, its not the MP at fault, its the rules.
Happily tighter rules come into force next month and it looks like we'll get a proper review to tighten them up further. I heard Nick Clegg making a lot of sense on the PM show today - don't let London MPs claim anything for a second home.0 -
That argument didn't wash at Nurembourg. I don't know at what point an MP ever becomes responsible for their actions. I would like to know how many of these finger in the till MP's have voted for tougher action on benefit cheats, or the removal of the ten p tax band for instance.Rochdale_Pioneers wrote: »Look, I think the rules are patently stupid, but if they allow an MP to claim money and he/she does so, its not the MP at fault, its the rules.
You / they can argue about rules till blue in the face, but it doesn't alter the fact that hundreds of thousands of pounds have been stolen from tax payers, yes the hard working families, in order to 'maximise' the MP's benefits.
They don't get sacked, they don't resign, and unlike a benefit claimant who might have been tempted to take a few extra pounds - they don't go to prison.
It's puke making to hear these people lecturing us on any kind of moral standard.0 -
I'd have the BAR STEWARD strung up by his testicles. Shall we say a minute per pound of expenses that he could have avoided, if he wanted to.
When I was a SAP consultant I travelled all over the FFFing world it was part of the job, I stayed away from home every night, and didn't get paid a penny extra, my expenses did not provide a nice little earner, but covered the expenses required to get to and from site and stay in the hotel. This situation stinks, most of these MP's are useless anyway, and in reality make little or no difference, although they pretend that they do, so allowing them to continue the on-going situation.0 -

The problem is these BAR STEWARDS make the rules. A clampdown on MP's expenses to a level of what a person working an office 10 miles from where he lives, is hardly going to get many votes, amongst these spongers.0
