To push the logic a bit, are you saying that Labour mp's are more morallistic than Tory i.e. there will be no swings and roundabout effect :D

Heavens no! I was using a Tory MP as an example to show most of them are awful as the minister in the original article was Labour. With a few principled exceptions, they are all as bad as each other.

Yes it's immoral but i would be more worried about the incompetence of MPs through this banking crisis so far. Competence is more important especially in crisis. Bankers have been outplaying politicians in every step IMO. How much competence can you see from current MPs including PM? I will leave it for you guys.

P.S I agree with Generali to pay more to find better people.

It happens in private entereprises as well:rolleyes: I would be quite happy if our MP's simply never comitted illegal acts e.g. bribery and corruption. without trying to make them into some kind of sainthood :D

what so we have to accept that MPs will necessarily screw the system in order to make personal profit, because it happens elsewhere.

    i don't think so.

i doubt that would actually work - i think politics attracts a certain type of person. you could double or triple the salary and it still wouldn't attract the "better people" whoever they are.

i'm still all for the idea of a big "westminster hotel" - student halls type accomodation for the MPs to sleep in when they're at westminster. they're always on about how late they have to work so i'm sure they'll be glad to be put up in functional accomodation 2 minutes walk away. it will save on taxis as well.

    1. Its not party political - for every Labour "sleaze" case on expenses I raise you Dover, Conway, Wintertons etc etc.
    2. As I understand most of the cases its not "sleaze" as they're operating inside the rather lax guidelines. What we need to do is lobby the Standards Commissioner to tighten the rules up rather than berate MPs for claiming expenses they're entitled to.

maybe, or maybe we can introduce a basis "expenses theory test" for politicians, you know, questions like

    1) What are expenses for?

    a) to reimburse you for expenses that you necessarily incur in the course of your employment

    b) to transfer as much money as possible from the public purse, to your purse, regardless of the actual costs you have incurred

    c) to fund nepotism

    d) PARTY

you know, questions as blinding obvious as the driving theory test (with the correct answer being (a) 90% of the time).

Of course we should berate a New Labour authoritarian/sleazeball like McNulty. If he thought what he was doing was morally right why did he lift his snout out of the trough in January? McNulty will be the object of public loathing and it could not have happened to a nicer bloke.

Relocate the whole houses of parliament to Salford near Manchester.

I doubt we'd see many MPs claiming for a second home in Salford. They would be too embarassed.

    Job done :)
  • They couldn't be doing it at a worst time when peiople are having jobs axed etc and what is he the minister for............!

Makes you laugh when they say 'we understand what people are going through' and all the other crap that pours from their mouths.

They haven't an f in clue and i doubt they ever will.
