Mothers Day Ideas

I remember reading about this somewhere but how about some home made vouchers that kids can give to Mum and she can redeem throughout the year e.g. I will do the hoovering or I will dry the dishes. It is free and shows goodwill, I don't have kids though so maybe this may cause arguments but is an idea...!!!

That's a nice idea to get them to make vouchers - you could always laminate them to make them look 'gifty' and put them inside a handmade card. You could get the children to really think hard and come up with something that is personalised to their mum. My sister is a teacher with that age group, I might suggest the idea to her.

A picture frame to hold a photo of the child or a poem written by them for their mum. You could use old ones and stick or paint stuff on them.
Baskets woven from thick card or knitted/plaited carrier bags to contain HM sweets or cookies.

One of the nicest pressies I got off one of my boys for mother's day was a little glass jar, decorated with ribbons and lace, and inside were several pices of paper folded up, each with a small task written on them, such as make a cup of coffee, wash the pots, tidy up, give mum a big hug etc ... you get the picture. I then had to pick out a piece of paper and whatever task it said DS had to do :D

Not only do I remember those poems PW - I have a HM picture where a dear friend wrote it out and had my eldest 3 dk's put their handprints on it ... very sentimental now.

One year my youngest gave me a decorated matchbox with lots of little hearts in it that had been made with a hole punch - very pretty and heartwarming :D

I think PW poem is a great idea, I would love for DS to come out with that. Maybe add one of those little calenders at the bottom to make it fuctional.

A huge thank you to everyone who suggested some great ideas. Unfortunately lots of the children in my class are younger brothers and sisters of past pupils of mine therefore need something new so that mum doesn't end up with a duplicate!
I've already used the vouchers and also decorated many a plant pot (infact i'm quite an expert!).
I liked the coaster idea and the tea towel but does anyone know where i could get cheap blank ones?
    Keep the ideas coming.

    Thanks
  • I have on my desk beside me and old Mother's Day gift that was either made at school or brownies.

All the children were asked to bring in an old jam pot or small jar (duly cleaned out of course) and they used glass paints to decorate them.

Mine has a lovely little flower on two sides and I love you Mum with her name.

A treasured possession that I use for pens and pencils icon7.gif
