Asda Extra Special Chicken Pastry (It is beef!)

  • I work for Asda CS & have to say I don't see the need to be contacting the area manager etc. What the CS person should do is fill out a complaints form & contact head office with you there anyway, they will then investigate & get back to the customer. If it's an Asda product we would refund & replace or double refund & i'd automatically give a giftcard as goodwill. It's no wonder CS people sometimes don't even feel like helping, you're saying you'd go in shouting at the CS colleague, why?? It's not their fault & i'm sure with a decent attitude they'll be more than happy to try to help you. We're only human & can imagine how it would feel if it'd been us in your situation, so please give them chance to do their job.

Thank you for that. It's because of people with the same attitude as the OP that I gave up CS desk after being shouted at, sworn at, spat at and had things thrown at me (not all by the same person I might add). It is not the fault of the person on the desk and there is no need to become aggressive.

As my Nan says, you'll catch more flies with honey than you will with vinegar. (if that doesn't work, THEN is the time to get tough)
When it comes to thought, some people stop at nothing.........
  • Although I am against the compensation culture, I do work in this line of business and mislabelling of product is seen to be a big issue.

It is the allergen risk that causes the biggest concern as the outside label should reflex what is inside the product. Dietry requirements are now a major issue to all major food manufactures.

You have to listen to peoples personal eating habits and if this person does not eat red meat this should not be swept a side then the complaint is made.

I would call the Customer Services line rather than go instore - they may ask for the product to be return but they will also pass on to the relevant department.
  • i agree on it being a big mistake, last year (before wheat was outta teh question!) i went into greggs and asked for a cheese pastie, i bit into it and it was all pink inside and tasted grainy, id never had a meat and potato pastie so at first i thought it was gone-off cheese, then i realised id just ingested meat after being a veggie for 10 years! i cried! i went back to the greggs straight away and was given a bottle of drink, a real cheese pastie and soem other food, basically she gave me tonnes of cakes and stuff and kept apologising! i didnt shout but i did speak clearly and outlined exactly how upset i was wihotu getting personal or insulting etc. also, greggs sent me a cheque for £10 later.

i felt that this was fair as i had ended up throwing up quite a few times over it that day and teh next. i dont really think in cases such as that just a 'apology and refund' is really good enough. i mean now if i ate wheat id be ill for about three days (thats what happened last time a woman in a restaurant told me what she later told her manager in front of me was 'a little white lie'!) and what if somone who had a peanut allergy had something whioch they were told either by a person or by the pack was nut free- thats life or death!

so, no an apology isnt really enough in these cases.

i also know how it is from teh other point of view too, when i was a maccies manager i had food thrown at me, i was swore at, i was pushed and threatened. if i have a complaint i speak calmly and nicely and i always say 'i know its not your personal fault but ive come to you, so can you help me?' whcih i wish was said more often to me when teh shoe wa son teh other foot!

  • I don't really understand how money or a free cake makes up for something like accidentally eating meat if you are a veggie. How does it put you in a different mindset? How does it make you believe that it's allright now because your an eclair up?

I'm not having a go at you, I just don't understand compensation.
  • Agree with Mr Fishbulb, if I ate a meat pasty (having been veggie for so long) I would be mortified; however people have differing reasons for being veggie which would influence their reaction
  • I am also veggie and have been in the same situation - no, of course compensation doesn't take away the deep disgust, but it's the company's only real way of acknowledging they were in the wrong, and often the staff member's way of trying to atone for their error.

I didn't ask for anything except assurances from the top bod that better procedures would be put in place, and was quite surprised to get gift vouchers (this from University catering!) but who's going to refuse if financial / material compensation is offered?
