depending on the length of your stay, getting a French SIM might be worth looking at - the ordinary call charges are fairly high but there are some add-on inclusive packages that would be interesting with a calling card, or otherwise use a callback service at around 15p to UK landlines0

Deffo get a French sim. I have used the SFR ones and found texting quite cheap. Also, get the person in the UK to call you on your French sim via a cheap route. Roaming charges for UK sims are still ridiculous......and then the window licker said to me...0

Thanks for that, I have virgin mobile phone and have just received 4 FREE Sims with £5.00 call credit on each one.(via this site)
so I have £20 worth of credit up to now, I plan to use to text home.

yep, texts would be better (35p), as outgoing calls 95p per minute
