Help unlocking Motorola v600 please

I bought my parent a mobile about a year ago & they still havnt managed to get the hang of it. So i have dug out an old mobile from home. I have changed over the sim & the screen comes up with vodaphone etc but nothing is working so i think it may need to be unlocked (although it has had different sims in the past - they may have all been the same company)

Could anyone helpwith some guidance & advice please.

I have been trying to unlock one of these for a while, everything I find says I require a cable to unlock it even though it say I can enter a code when I try another sim but no one can supply me the code.

I would like to get a cable if it will unlock a selection of motorola phones including the v171 and the v600
