I made my first batch of these just over a week ago, and have had to make 2 more batches since! The kids love 'em (as well as the big kids:D ) and they enjoy helping too as they are so easy to make. I've been doubling up all the ingredients to make more, but they seem to go twice as fast! :EasterBun

I did a mix of white and plain chocolate on the last lot, which was great. Also v. impressed with Tesco's value chocolate.

Thanks so much Jaxxy00 - it's given me confidence to try a bit more home baking!:T (not saving me much money though as the kids keep wanting me to make more! )

Thanks frugal fox. Well ive just got out 12 which were cooling and there now sits just 5!! They dont even get chance to get cold let alone left until the next day. Oh well i suppose i would moan if they got wasted.

Im not sure how they are normally made but my recipe comes from a lady who was doing the refreshments at a community centre jumble sale me and my sister went to one year. We had a cuppa and one of the brownies and they were really yummy so we asked were they got them from and the lady said shed made them and gave us the recipe. I wrote it on a scrappy bit of paper that i still have and use now.

    In a bowl put
    4 crushed weetabix
    4oz caster sugar
    4oz self raising flour
    2 tbsp cocoa powder
pkt chocolate drops (i use a 25p 100g tescos own milk chocolate chopped up)

    mix this altogether

then take 4oz of melted marg and stir this into the mixture along with an egg

mix well and put in a baking tray and bake for 15 minutes at electric 180.

I put this mix into a square tin which measures 8 1/2 x 8 1/2 inches. I suppose you could use anything a similar size it would just turn out a bit more or less deeper. I also line the tray with greaseproof paper to save any sticking. Once out the oven let it stand for about 5 minutes then turn out the tray and cut into squares.

Enjoy!!! if you get chance before everyone else takes them.

Just made these brownies and they are gorgeous! Thanks for the recipe:beer:

Just made these and they were - no exaggeration - the best piece of baking I have ever done in my life!! Baking is not usually my strong point but these... So simple, so (relatively, for brownies anyway) healthy, and came out perfectly!!!

Now, my question is, what's the best way to store them, to keep them moist and fresh - in a tin, wrapped eg in foil in a tin, in the fridge or any other way?
  • Would like to help you, but mine have never lasted long enough to get stored!

    Mine neither!:D
    Do what you love :happyhear
  • I store mine in a Lock n Lock box with either greasproof paper or kitchen towel between the layers. If given the chance - because I sometimes double the recipe - they keep for a good few days. I use white milky drops in mine - though for the halloween party the milky drops were supposed to be "ground up bones"!
  • Do they come out with the crunchy top on them?

Well, i just have to give these a go now.
otherwise i will be awake at 3am wondering - yes, i know, i'm sad.

  • Mine don't have a crunchy top - they are moist and delicious. May be because, to fit my tins, I use 6oz of everything and increase the other ingredients by one-third. Of course I can't do this with the egg, so I add 2. Don't know if brownies are supposed to have a crunchy top as I've never bought one (too thrifty - that's why I love this thread - and used to watch my weight but that has gone out the window since I've discovered all the wonderful recipes on here) but everyone I've given them to raves about them so I must be doing something right.

I have a batch of these in the oven right now - must take them out in a minute. I can't wait to try them
