Help needed O2 LG Renoir

Hi i got a retention deal on the KC910 (Renoir) as i was told i can use it to email (hotmail and yahoo)but I cannot !!!!!!!

I have gone into the shop they tried, i have been on to o2 they tried, I phoned back o2 the guy there told me o2 active doesnt support hotmail so even if i configured it then hotmail could charge me for emails  I have also been told that hotmail is not pop3 and again I wouldnt be able . I have phoned LGmobiles which cost me a fortune to tell me i needed to get in touch with my network operator grrrrrrrrrrrr!!!

So now i have come to the conclusion that very few peeps actually know what the phone can do and what it cannot do.

I was sold it for that purpose and in email settings on the phone guess what it has hotmail and yahoo and also yahoo.uk.
I have set it all up with correct user names passwords and settings (i got from o2) but still cannot access.
Yahoo says failed
Hotmail just crashes the phone the screen goes black and i have to remove battery to reboot.

SO MY QUESTION IS ?????????????
does anyone know how to set up these things and if i have done all correct does this mean the phone is faulty or its not capable of such athing it was sold for ??

Any advice from peeps who actually do know what i am talking about not just reading a script would be fab coz my 14 days are up soon I really need to know if i was fobbed off with a handset not made for the job intended.

thank you in advance

Hotmail isn't pop3 it's Imap (and is a right pain on some phones).
The only way to use hotmail is to use the browser the same way you do on a pc and pick up that way...
  • Thanks for that I have again phoned o2 and they checked further again and o2 does not support hotmail. so in effect I was sold the phone incorrectly. I do however believe that o2 stock the blackberry which as it runs on bb's own software not o2 active this is capable of using hotmail. So although i love the renior it looks like its going back as not able to do what i requested it for.

    regards

None of the networks support hotmail, it's a total pain ! (sorry, only in a phone sense).
I have a feeling the BB won't do hotmail either, you need to spoof the email address you want to use with the Rim (BB) server and I think (and I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong) you can't do that with hotmail...
    Like I said, real pain. . .

I thought you needed to upgrade to the 'full' version of hotmail, used to be about £20/year. That should allow you to use it with outlook/push mail.

Yeah, there used to be an upgrade that would give you full pop/smpt access. I'm not sure if they still do it though. . . ?

I have a Blackberry with O2 and I use it with my hotmail account. Couldn't have been easier to set up.
  • Sorry to dig up an old thread but if anyone still needs the settings, I'm using the following right now and they work fine..

1-In "Message Settings" select "Email Accounts" then "Add Account"
2-Name the account, put your name in user name as your address (exemple@hotmail.com) and your password. For email address and return address, you just repeat your email address.
3-For "outgoing mail server", put smtp.live.com
4-For "incoming mail server", put pop3.live.com
    5 Type-mail: POP3
6-For the access point, it's normally your default internet provider (don't worry if you use wi-fi because it'll just use that instead).
    7-Mailbox type is pop3
8-Save to server should be set to on
9-Email to retrieve can be set as you wish but header only makes things a bit faster
10-In advanced settings, you must enter the port 587 for SMTP and activate the TLS / SSL
11-In advanced settings, you must enter the port 995 for the server and also activate the TLS / SSL
9-Then activate the SMTP authentication and put your address and password for the hotmail SMTP
    10-Put "Conn. Secur. APOP" ON
    11-Save

As long as everything has gone well, you should have access to your hotmail account without needing to pay for it!
