I am a student at university and am looking to buy a laptop for general everyday use such as microsoft office programs and internet....
Currys are doing a deal on a Toshiba A100-549 for £599.99. Its an intel celeron M 360 with 1400mhz processor. It has a memory of 1024mb and a 15.4" widescreen display.
Could someone please give me some information on this laptop or any others they think would be suitable. Is this a good deal?
Thanks!!

I got a referbished Laptop Dell for my sister for £124 from ebay. Works great, and very fast to. Not the latest technology but great for students who need to use office applications and broadband internet. Check out ebay, but make sure you do your research on the seller, i.e check feedback, date registered, etc.0

Its just knowing what laptop to go for.The one i mentioned in the first post is from Currys. Is that an up to date model etc.can anyone advise me?0

Bit of a rubbish spec for the money, good sized memory but weak processor, you can do better for £600 or cheaper for the same spec from Dell. Check the cheap laptop thread at the top of the Techie board, personally i'd go for a Centrino or Turion based laptop. He huihuinga taangata he pukenga whakaaro – A meeting of people; a wellspring of ideas (Maori proverb)0

The £300 deal may not be available on-line - my boss couldn't get it so he phoned them and got it.0 -
The cheap deal IS NOT available online. Look at the last few apges of that thread and it tells you exactly what you need to make sure of when you call to get this laptop.0

Even beter is this model for £656 which i have just bought (although for your stated purposes the former would be fine).

But as everyone states the Dell £299 offer would be plenty for just surfing and documents.Fortune's always hiding, I've looked everywhere......0 -

I would not have known that this was a weak processor.Which one of the dell should i go for ? I have a desktop at home - Dimension 3000 and think its great. There are a few in the sun today, would be willing to spend around £550 - £600 max.what about the Dell Inspiron 1300 with the 15.4 widescreen at £599 is this a good one ? i cant see what memory it has tho.0 -
