  • My youngest girl was called Mimbles but she ended up being called Mimi because she was so small and dainty it just suited her more.

I never heard of the "end with an "i" or"y"" thing...hmm...Mine are called Hex and Fudge. Neither have any issues responding to the names, except when they (as all cats do) get "selective deafness"...usually along the lines of "Hex, stop it.." or "fudge, WHY have you shredded that loo roll?"...;)

Hex nearly ended up as "Mofo"...he was an energetic player, and swiped me quite neatly.

TBQH, Fudge usually gets called "minicat", and Hex is usually called "noodles" (because he's got none now). "You" is also quite good, they both respond to that, usually with the throat chattering "hunt" noise, followed by batting the pointing finger.

I have ten cats, and I agree that most names that end with the i, e, y sound work really well with our cats. Ours are called:

Mittens (but I call her Mitzy)
    Tilly
Meg (but I call her Meggy Moo lol)
    Chloe
    Phoebe
    Chewy
    Alfie
    Molly
    Charlie
    and finally Karli
  • Kali? It means black in Sanskrit.
  • My cousin has just taken in a black cat .. she calls her "Mystic" ... and it really suits her!

My old cat was Holly and my latest stray is Snowy (you'll never guess what colour she is!!) so they're not really appropriate!

Someone suggested Ebony earlier ... that's a cracking name for a black cat! I might keep that in reserve should I come across a black one!

Mystic is great! My black Cat is Tess but I didn't name her! It does suit her though. I dunno why my Dog is Chaya when she's not black but I love the name!

I agree with those that suggest you wait until her personality names her for you, but I had a particularly lovely black cat called Sabbath (as in Black Sabbath:o ) and everyone loved that name.

    Good luck with them.

    P. S. Pleeeeeease tell me you are going to get them both neutered before they can make kittens? (Is there a praying smiley anywhere?):D

aw, i had a cat called Storm, she was a real lady :)

I have no idea why, but the name 'Audrey' sprang to mind when you described your cat, I imagined Audrey Hepburn. However, you might be best ignoring me, I named a beautiful, elegant, white cat 'Trevor' when I was a child...
