I'm with you ladymisswolfe. I asked hubby to get a bunch of flowers for my Mum whilst he was shopping and he has spent £12.50 on a tiny bunch of flowers!! We already have a present for her so I only wanted a small amount spent! There are 12 flowers in the bunch - 3 roses, 3 crysanths, 3 gerbeas and 3 tulips. A complete rip off in my opinion and we have had words about it! He said he had no idea what the flowers should cost and everyone was buying them. Also I see from the receipt he has spent £10 on flowers presumably for me. There are many things I would have preferred for a £10 gift than Tesco rip off flowers - yes I AM ungrateful. If I thought Tesco would refund them I would take both bunches straight back.

Don't be too harsh on hubby, he was only doing what he was told.

Tesco does refund flowers btw if you can be bothered to queue. Tell them you are taking them back because you didn't realise how much they cost until you looked at your receipt but be sharp about it.

I was going to get the 50 tulips from Tesco for £5.00 for my Mum but went to our local market and got a lovely basket of 3 pink Hyacinth plants for £3.95 instead and a lovely car from Barnardos for .69p. It is the though that counts and I care for my parents so I buy her flowers quite often anyway and they know I am short of money
On Valentine's day I went to Tesco and bought 2 bunches of red roses ( for myself) reduced from £5.00 per bunch to 75p per bunch!!. Tesco will charge what they want and I saw loads of people buying them.

Just to let you know that the flowers in Sainsbury's today were absolutely beautiful. I 'd gone there from Asda where it looked like they'd been shook around in a tumble drier - totally overpriced, some wilting and very poor quality.
Big thumbs up for Sainsbury's in Sunderland.

So the commercial world takes advantage of any given day doesn't mean that it is right. Tesco love to market themselves as being the nation's saviour, supporting communities etc - a bit more transparency would be nice. Of course I expect Sir Tel et al to make commercial decisions but don't insult us all by pretending to care for it's consumers' finances.

I'm not talking about the commercial world. In fact I do think it's wrong that prices go up - I just realise that they will go up if every man and his dog want to buy these things on particular days of the year, because (as I said) of demand and supply.

As Abbafan1972 above, I don't run out like every other lemming to get the same, predictable thing that everyone else is buying. My wife and I went out a couple of weeks ago to buy something thoughtful and nice for our mums. My mum would be a little annoyed if we just went around to hers with a bunch of flowers!

I live near a dual carriageway and get my Mothering Sunday Daffs free from the central reservation there every year. Got 75 blooms this morning at 6am before anybody was about!

    And there's more.

Just further up the road is a traffic island which is quite overgrown. However it is also my secret source of Holly each year. We make several wreaths for friends and family, all fer free!

    WooHoo!

And it is legal to do this unless you sell them or dig up the whole plant.

I thought picking primroses etc was not allowed anymore? Is it different because the daffs are not wild flowers but planted by the highway authority (in which case surely they belong to them).

I must say I don't approve as I enjoy looking at the daffodils on our dual carriageway as I pass.

Of course I have - but the point is DOUBLING the price is ridiculous. Espcially when it was something that yestrday cost half the price. Now if you want to have special bouquets only available for that occasion, then price them at what you want. But to provide the same product at twice the price, knowing people will want to buy something, rather takes advantage of the situation to an unacceptable degree - especially in the current climate.

you are assuming Tesco dont pay a higher price for flowers for these days
