United Utilities set the debt collectors on me!

Bills from SEW contain so little information - basically only a total of what you owe and nothing else like credits to account etc that makes being your responsibility to check them a joke.

I just been helping a friends with a water bill. They are un-metered and pay twice a year. Last year SEW collected the first payment then sent the next bill with full amount for year. They queried the bill and was just sent another bill exactly the same. They actually paid both bills (four times what was owed).

SEW only refunded 6 months recently saying the other money had been used to pay the whole of this years bill in a single payment.

Is there anything I can do to get the 6 months back off them that was not due until October.
