I don't no never watch that program, it was on news though. I did hear about it months ago on Radio 4.

It probably is the same, it was last week i think it was on This Morning. By the sounds of it you don't like This Morning.

The police told me to get a cheap one but you get what you pay for and it wasn't the best for identifying people. I got mine form B&Q it cost for about £40 The police didn't say about any regulations (i forgot to say in my original post)
i have put a light up that comes on everytime people go past or come up my path and i havent had a problem being able to see whats going on the sound is good too for the price of it and the police tend to know the local yobs what they look like and how they sound round here cos they do patrol the area more these days and i have seen a vast improvement where i live since asbos were introduced. good luck anyway!

Hope this helps as I have studied CCTV for ages and I have now got mine installed, it's very easy.
You need a camera with built in Infra-red lights so that the camera can see in the dark rather than relying on a external light, you can add more infra-red lights to make it better if you want.
The CCD type cameras are best with a seperate interchangeable lens and probably a 4mm lens as this gives a reasonable amount of viewing angle, basically lenses will go from 2mm which will have a wide viewing angle but not very close up to 12mm which will get very close up but not give you much of a view angle.
All you need to do then is to conect them via phono leads to a special video card which you fit into the back of your computer in a spare pci slot maybe where your modem is etc.
The card enables you to record all the time or record based on movement or you can just view it whenevr ou like, the recording are saved on your C Drive so you need a 20GB to 30Gb hard drive minimum.
All this stuff can be obtained of EBay and a one camera set up can cost as little as £70.
If you have any more questions then let me know, I don't want to make the reply too long.

yep you need a light with it we have one over our front door as we had lots of yob problems(eggs, smashing windows twice, car vandelsm etc)and neighbour problems(pushing car back over our gate with theirs, shouting threatening abuse, spitting at us,etc) i dont know about all these regulations but we just did what the police told us they never mentioned any regulations!!!!!!!just told us to get a camera up so we did they even told us not to spend a lot just a cheap one will do the job so ours is from argos and i have had a few things caught on it!!!!!!!!including female neighbour mooning at it!without a light dont bother cos at night you wouldnt catch anything on it! best of luck and with the camera it does make you feel safer.
things are a lot more peaceful now but the neighbours split up and went home!

Which argos one did you buy as I had a look at the argos kits and am confused. Was the picture quality ok for both night and day? Also, what equipment did you use to record these incidents as I have trouble making neighours who are forever tempering with my guttering and throuowing stuff into my front and back garden.

Anybody know what the situation is with regards shared access parts of property? I've always been tempted to cover my driveway with CCTV, however a path runs down the side of the driveway for my neighbours. This is still my property, however I must allow them access (which they rarely use). I'd want to cover the whole driveway, otherwise the camera is useless.

ic, why don't you just seak to your neighbour as they will benefit from the protection too - unless they are the problem that is.
GOOGLE it before you ask, you'll often save yourself a lot of time. ;)
