So ... get rid of the double glazing before they re-introduce a tax on windows, huh?
If many little people, in many little places, do many little things,
they can change the face of the world.

In 1978 I was in my first full-time job after leaving secretarial college. After tax/NI I was taking home 73.6% of my basic.
Right now if you earn £7.50/hour and work 35 hours/week you'd take home 82.2% of your money.
Somebody on minimum wage would be taking home 86.3% of their money.0 -

Nah, just expect the council-tax band to go up for the 'benefit' of having a nice view.0 -
In a sense, this has already happened.Thing is, world is far more global these days, just watch those on more than 50K flee this country like rats off a sinking ship..
To be honest, I dont blame them.
Singapore/Canada/New Zealand are looking pretty attractive right now.
The style of the bailout has no doubt allowed the wealthy to deleverage their positions in a controlled manner.
There will be books and films written about this in the future, making Enron/Leeson look like a mini-series!0 -
I so wish those that talk the talk would walk the walk!
Dont get me started
I would do thier job for 30k a year with accom- a bog standard flat is fine. they work long hours SERVING - do they seem grateful for the opportunity to serve the people? No. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -

So ... before we hear the first politician utter the phrase "we need to tighten our belts" - do we start the petition saying "YOU LOT GO FIRST!".If many little people, in many little places, do many little things,
they can change the face of the world.

What we do know is that those who are employed and so are paying tax are those who are the relatively well off whilst those unemployed are the worse off.
With inflation low then the taxed employed may actually be net better off than formally.
At worst, in real terms, we will probably be as badly off as 10 years ago... and remember how bad that was.0 -
If only that were the case. If you aren't in a well paid job it's quite likely that those around you who aren't working are a lot better off. What we do know is that those who are employed and so are paying tax are those who are the relatively well off whilst those unemployed are the worse off.
I did some quick calculations the other day that said if I were over 25 and living alone and paid £6/hour and worked just 16 hours/week - after WTC top up I'd be just a couple of quid worse off than if I were working 40 hours - and along with work comes the cost of getting to/from work and so it balanced out pretty much. I'd have an extra 24 hours/week to enjoy myself, catch some sun, shop when food reductions were in the shops etc and have a great life.
All those tax credits shovel money at people... it's a system that was supposed to 'help' some people, but ended up doing the opposite as the system can be "worked"0 -

Dump tax credits.
Change the tax thresholds. No one who earns less than 18K to pay tax. Let people keep more of what they earn in their pocket.
Anyone who 'earns' more than the minimum threshold must at least pay the lower tax threshold. This includes all those 'non-doms' , Rock Stars, and oh yes......the Hedge Fund managers who have bragged about paying less tax than the cleaners!
It's a !!!!!!!g joke I tell ya
Right, I'm going to have to go look at some pictures of fluffy kittens now to calm down ....

I'm in Ireland - my payslip yesterday showed me that Tax, PRSI(NI), Pension Levies and Income Levy amounted to about one-third of my gross salary.
That's not including the Pension payments or voluntary contribs to other things.
Our Vat rate went up in December - currently it's 21.5%.
This is only the start...
Our politicians are leading by example though - ministerial visits abroad for St. Patrick's day were halved this year. They only went to New York, Washington, Toronto, San Francisco, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Houston, Seattle, Australia, Germany, and 'some other countries' .I'm an adult and I can eat whatever I want whenever I want and I wish someone would take this power from me.
