What anti virus product are you using - there are a number of free ones available IF you do not currently have one installed.
I recommend Avira - http://www.free-av.com/en/download/1/avira_antivir_personal__free_antivirus.html
Install, update and run that first.0 -

Someone posted a few hours ago that a zonealarm update messed their computer up. Would you say that could have happened to you?
They uninstalled and reinstalled it to get it working again:idea:0 -

Theres nothing wrong except whats been mentioned however you could stop a few things starting up when the computer boots up which will speed up boot time. Theres a few resource hog in there.
You could also try a defrag of the hard drive, cleaning it up a bit, running a registry scan, and defraging the registry.
How full is the hard drive and how old is the computer?0 -
Things to check
- Event viewer logs to see if any process fails. Programs should have their own timeout period after failing to do a particular action. This usually looks like a hang.
- Are you connected to a network? If so, do you try to access a resource that is on a remote system. This will cause a hang and similar effect as above. If no network available.
- Some software is trying to do an update for example a virus detector maybe looking for an updated file over the net.0 -
Thanks everyone for your help.
I uninstalled Zonealarm - then re-installed it, and this seems to have done the trick:beer::j I hope my comment helps :T0
