Slow Start up

For some strange reason my PC has started to take ages to start up - since yesterday infact.

I don't know if my son clicked on something by mistake or if it's a latest release from microsoft that has messed it up:confused:

I use Firefox and ZoneAlarm.

What can I do to sort out this slow start-up?

What happens

When I click on my name the screen kinda freezes for absolute ages
or
I click on my name and it goes to desktop but then the icons & everything else take ages to appear.

HELP!
:j I hope my comment helps :T

Download and install hijackthis http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/ once installed open it and press Do a system scan and save a logfile, after a few moments the logfile will open in notepad, post the contents of the file back here.

I'd just use system restore to go back to yesterday

    http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/systemrestore.mspx

and see if it cures it first ;)

Can I jump into this thread? Mine is doing the same and has been for months now! It isn't quite as bad as it was, since I got rid of AVG and installed Avira which found some infected files. Now it seems to 'hang' a bit when it first starts up and also whenever I go onto a msn/hotmail page (sometimes have to ctr/alt/del on these pages).

Shall I start a new thread if it would make things easier, so as not to hijack Trillionaire's thread perhaps? Any help appreciated. :)

Download MALWAREBYTES (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD NOW')
    http://www.download.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html
    UPDATE and FULL SCAN
Post the log in your NEW thread AFTER youve deleted everything it finds

    reboot

Download HIJACK THIS (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/
Click DO A SCAN AND SAVE A LOGFILE (Takes seconds) then post the log in your NEW thread so we can see whats running
(do NOT do anything else with Hijack but scan and post the FULL log)

  • aliEnRIK is your last post for me or elkay? (thick emoticon)
