Paypal taking money back

I recently sold an ipod shuffle on ebay for £59.29(incl p&p). The buyer paid through paypal as requested and I transferred the money to my bank account soon after. Today I received an email from paypal advising me that I may be the recipient of potentially unauthorised funds and that they have put a temporary hold on the money making my paypal account in debit of £57 odd. The buyers address was paypal verified so I assumed this meant it was safe to trade with them. I am really concerned as obviously its quite a bit of money and I cant afford to lose it. Can anyone offer any suggestions if the worst happens and paypal takes the money from my bank account? Is there a way I can claim it back?

Query why they are taking the money, appeal against it.

Also call paypal and speak to a amanger so that they can explain what is happening and if they can send an email to the buyer requesting that they return your goods.

You are stuffed. Never accept Paypal unless the buyer has a confirmed delivery address.

Another really helpful reply there  The OP stated that the address was Paypal verified.

So a verified paypal member couldn't have requested an item be sent to an unconfirmed address? For example, i have a verified paypal account, but i could request something be posted to my brothers house, thus thats an unconfirmed address.

Fair comment by Richto, and the OP hasn't yet told us if it was a confirmed address, so yes it was helpful to point this out.

Personally i think your chances of getting the money or the item are fairly slim. Paypal look after themselves, then buyers then sellers in that order of priority.

Good luck though, let us know how you get on. I'd love to be proved wrong about paypal having lost £450+ the same way you did...

in very few words you are probably screwed.

Seems like the buyer has initiated a charge back via his credit card company.
I would imediately remove all debit cards and credit cards from your account even if that means cancelling them.

the question is can you prove delivery still?

As you shipped to a confirmed address then surely you are covered by paypal protection !! actually sorry there is no such thing they only look after them selves.

see https://www.paypalsucks.com to see if they can advise.
Apeal against the charge back saying it was sent to a confirmed address and if there is any fraud they should chase the buyer they accpeted the credit card so in law they have to deal with it, but in the t&c's they passed this responsibility to you i think..
but all that paypal is likely to do is pass this to bailifs to chase you.

Do not use paypal that is the lesson to be learnt here everyone gets a charge back in the end.

A confirmed address is I think what you are thinking of.

Also I am not sure if you state your delivery method, but for the value of your item at over £60 I would post it special making the buyer of course pay the postage. I am not even sure this will be sure proof of getting your cash back but at LEAST you can prove your tracking details.

Sorry to hear this. I sent an item to a confirmed address/Paypaler in the US and 3 months later the buyer complained to Paypal that the use of her creditcard was unauthorised. I forwarded them her messages to me where she stated she was going to use her cc, but they weren't interested and I lost the money (I get the impression that because she got her cc company involved, Paypal caved in), plus I had to pay Paypal a fee for the privilege of allowing them to steal from me. After several weeks of wrangling I simply gave up and closed my Ebay and Paypal accounts completely as soon as the transfer from my current account had brought my balance back to zero.

As you've got an open dispute on your Paypal account now, I doubt you'll be able to remove any payment options via Paypal, although cancelling them at source would probably work.
