I've had several in the past which would only 'pull' funds from linked accounts, rather than permitting 'push' transactions.

Well I never... as the saying goes.
And I thought it was a unique to Bradford & Bingley quirk.
You learn something new everyday. Again, as the saying goes.

Finally got a reply after ~10 days..

"As our accounts do not carry sort codes, it is only possible to transfer funds to your eSavings account from your nominated account. In order to arrange the transfer of funds, you must do this from your eSavings account."

Annoying I know. It's the only account I have that operates this way.

To be fair though, it does state in the T&C's how to fund the account.

maybe so, but they are now losing my custom. I am going to move my money somewhere where moving money it is more flexible.
  • I wish to transfer my Bradford and Bingley e-ISA elsewhere, but my new provider requires a sort code and 8-digit account number. If I transfer the funds into my current account, I lose the tax-free status, so it looks as though I have to leave my money with Bradford and Bingley.

Nonsense. Your new provider's form might be set up to require a sort code and 8-digit account number, but that is a failing on their part. Amend the form so that you can include your correct account number, and include a covering letter, and you will be fine.

Actually, Bradford & Bingley Internet accounts are the only ones I've come across, where the transfer has to be initiated by the 'receiving' institution.
All my other accounts elswhere, I tell the 'sending' institution to 'send' the funds.

Birmingham Midshires also are DD only (unless they've changed with their newer Internet accounts)

New account numbers with 8 digits and 6 digit sort code are being posted at moment, they are Abbey ones though so my 3 B+B accounts are all closed.
I remember the good old days when it was a Building Society so the money has all gone to the Yorkshire BS.
I have a deep burning indifference
