My wife went out today with her sister and sister-in-law. Sister-in-law was going to pay for wife as I'm out of work at the moment and we are poor as church mice.

I printed out the voucher and it covered the cost of wife's meal :j

    Nice treat for her :T

Does anyone know if the new Loch Fyne £10 off voucher when you spend £30 is on food only or food and drinks?

Hoping this year is better than the last. :)
  • Hi I've just registered to come on here to give a warning.

I love the ideals of Moneysavingexpert and I think it's important that people know when a deal is not a good deal.

I took this voucher to Loch Fyne in Bristol today and paid ten pounds for what must have been worth about £4.

The free wine was GRIM. The soup was completely bland - I could easily have made better or bought better in any supermarket for a few pounds. The mains were also equally unimpressive with veg that could have come out of a tin, really unpleasant chips that tasted as if they'd been made in old cooking oil and side salads that definitely came out of a cheapy supermarket ready-washed bag with no dressing.

It was all distinctly unpleasant and very slow service to boot. You might only be paying ten pounds but it's not worth it. I should have gone to any sandwich shop and bought their most expensive sandwich to be better satisfied and still have a good few bob left over!

  • Well, just to balance this, my husband and I used the voucher to get our glasses of wine along with the lunch menu at Didsbury yesterday, and it was lovely. Pleasant wine, heaping great bowl of moules for me, pea soup which he really enjoyed, and both of us had hake with new potatoes and samphire (a rare find in a restaurant up here), which was lovely. They even let me "fiddle" the deal a bit so my side was served early, so I had bread with my moules.
The only "ordinary" thing was indeed the mixed veg my husband ordered as his side, but there was nothing wrong with these, they were just a bit dull compared to the loveliness of the other food.
Staff were charming and attentive - this may have been because the place was empty, mind you, but that in itself is a shame, as it is a lovely restaurant.
No problem getting tap water as well, so if I hadn't fallen into the pudding trap, it would have been a cheap do! Still very reasonable, and well worth the money even with that little non-MSE hiccup...:o

Visited Loch Fyne in Knowle on May 15th because, according to their website there was a 2 meals for £30 offer. When the waitress brought the menu and I asked about the offer I was told that it only applied at lunch time, so we ate a la carte. Checked online later and phoned restaurant to complain -was told that it was "mis-communication" - the offer was available but they didn't give the special menus unless customers asked for them. Was told the general manger would call me the following day - still waiting to hear from him - clearly more "mis-communication"
