You admit you were doing something wrong and indeed you were.
Stop stressing, just pay it and move on

    Couldn't agree more.

You've already wasted more time on this than it's worth...

This is a major bugbear of mine....................as a driver it's a darn sight less dangerous for me that cyclists are on the pavements (and bits of cycle paths that exist) out of my way so then I can concentrate on the chav peds, motorcyclists, jaywalkers, signage, animals, buses pulling out, roadworks and tossy incompetent drivers coming at me all ways!! I say the more of them on the pavement the better!

As a parent, I prefer my kids to cycle on pavements as I've seen far too many cyclists laid out in the road with ambulances and police all round (one just last week had to have the whole road closed off), and I don't want that to be either of my lads!!!!:mad:

As a cyclist, not only the above, but also how scary it is on the roads these days especially with all of the incompetent drivers and massive vehicles and no one giving a damn about you................I don't want to be one of those that are splatted in the street. Then there's the POTHOLES and manholes to dodge grrrrr Until they link up the tiny bits or cycle paths that are VERY confusing to find your way through, I will stick to the pavement as and when I need to.

As a pedestrian I haven't had any problems at all as they stop for me as I do when I cycle, there is always plenty of pavement and a lot of the time the cyclists share the pavement as the signs tell them to anyway - confusing?? Just a bloody bit!!!

Oh and one more thing.........................so it's alright for the coppers to cycle on the pavement but not anyone else then???????

    Here you go rbulph, may help your cause;

On 1st August 1999, new legislation came into force to allow a fixed penalty notice to be served on anyone who is guilty of cycling on a footway. However the Home Office issued guidance on how the new legislation should be applied, indicating that they should only be used where a cyclist is riding in a manner that may endanger others. At the time Home Office Minister Paul Boateng issued a letter stating that:

"The introduction of the fixed penalty is not aimed at responsible cyclists who sometimes feel obliged to use the pavement out of fear of traffic and who show consideration to other pavement users when doing so. Chief police officers, who are responsible for enforcement, acknowledge that many cyclists, particularly children and young people, are afraid to cycle on the road, sensitivity and careful use of police discretion is required."

Well personally I think cyclists should be allowed on the pavements subject to a 5mph speed limit, but unfortunately that's not the way it is.

As a runner, I can assure you it's not uncommon for me to be forced off a path, either into the road or into the bushes by inconsiderate cyclists. You're very fortunate to have wide footpaths where you are, that certainly isn't the case everywhere and many around here are entirely unsuitable for cyclists to use.

(I am, like yourself, also a cyclist and a motorist btw)

What this country needs is a renewed focus on path building - I have no problem with foot and cycle paths being combined, but they have to be wide enough.

And FWIW if I saw a copper riding on the pavement, you'd better believe I'd be asking for his badge number...

Ah I used to be a runner years ago (well rower doing running) and I must have been fortunate in that I never had a problem with cyclists. But where we are there's a train bridge where you can't cycle and walk comfortably due to a very long barrier..............and you totally do not want to be on the road on a bike, all cyclists go up the pavement and stop and give way to pedestrians. Trust me, I've done both as it's the main route out for a certain way as a cyclist, and the main route on foot to the local pub :D

So maybe I have been lucky so far  As for the coppers, it's a tad tricky when I'm driving about otherwise I might well challenge them about it!

I have no objection to cyclists on footpaths providing that they are pushing their bicycles in a responsible manner.

    Here, here.

I am sick and tired of the idiots round here who will ride their bikes on the pavement when it is clearly against the law and they are getting in the way of pedestrians. I have even seen postmen/women do it.

Of course, if you try and tell these idiots they should not be there you are more than likely to be met by a mouthful of abuse.
