Car insurance which one?

Is bell car insurance any good and anyone use them and had a claim?I have been looking at a few insurance options and bell insurance comes up best all the time,i now have a very good quote and i am tempted to go with them or elephant but elephant being a little more expensive.

But bell does not include a car replacement if mine is being fixed, which would probably put the price up a little if included but i wonder is it worth having this added, other options are protect no claims i think which does not include me and also breakdown cover which i dont need.

So what do i go for i think admiral, bell and elephant are all the same company? But i find there is a good difference in them all but what would i go for the cheapest?Yes or no.

What do others use on the above and let me know what they things of them as a car insurance company.

I am only going for one of the 3 above as looked into many others and they are the best for me.

  • I think bell, admiral, elephant, diamond are all part of admiral so i think the basic cover from any would be the same. I think they run confused as well - but i've never bought insurance from them.
  • I've been with all three, and all seemed ok although only ever had to do a claim with elephant and that was only a windscreen damage claim and it all went smoothly.

As regards replacement car. It all depdns on your circustances , view of risk and how much incovienience you are prepared to put with. Personally I tend to go with the cheapest and since the obvove comapnies have tried and found esure and privilidge to be cheaper. Also get the cheapest and then go back to your existing insurance comapny and ask them if they can better the cheapest. You might be surprised, as they can usually shave upto another 10% off.

I have just changed my Father in law's insurance and the post office with the £50 cash back was the best by far. I think there is another thread on here were a number of people have found out the same

Yes i did use them to search websites and as for the post office that was much more for insurance so will not go near them,i think i will stick with the two i mentioned as nobody has came near them, and as i have none no claims and its a sporty type car i think i am doing well,so of them are even quoteing £1000 more than my cheapest how they are still around i dont know.

  • I have just used the post office , saved £35 and got £50 cashback. Cover is actually better than with my previous insurer who to ' improve the service' they offered me, had this year increased the amount I needed to pay to cover glass repairs. £85 for my Florida kitty. Saving slowly but getting there on cash.

  • Ive heard a few tings about that post office deal, but be careful they havent just stuck you with a large compulsory excess or other not-so-obvious fees. Also you could try http://www.quotezone.co.uk/ as well as confused and moneysupermarket

My sister and I both insured our cars last year with elephant and although I didn't have any problems with them (as I didn't need to make a claim), my sister, however did make a claim and regretted it afterwards. If you make a total loss claim with them they cancel your insurance (in their t&c's). My sisters car had an electrical fault and burnt out, it wasn't even her fault, although the insurance companies don't see it that way. Anyway eventually got a settlement but then had to look for more insurance which became much more expensive.

My colleague was insured with diamond and had an accident last year, not her fault - someone pulled out in front of her - she is still trying to resolve it over a year later.

Needless to say I won't be renewing my insurance with elephant,or any of their 'sister' companies.

    Hope this helps!

also remember to have a look at quidco (www.quidco.com) They now have an insurance section and you can get up to £80 cashback on car insurance - the cashback can help towards bringing your total cost down a lot!

Oh no. I'm insured with Diamond, and wrote off my car in similar circumstances - someone pulled out in front of me, causing me to take evasive action, which caused me to spin out and crash into the central reservation. The jerk just drove off, and didn't even stop to see if everything was okay!

That happened last Monday, and eight days later they still haven't sorted me out with a replacement car, for which I paid extra. I use my car for work purposes, and I'm driving all round the country - 1000 miles last week alone, in a hire car. I'm really worried they're going to drag their heels on paying out on my total loss claim, as they can't reclaim it of the other driver.

Someone told me that Elephant, Diamond etc are all underwritten by Lloyds, and they're notoriously awful at settling claims. Why do you never find these things out until it's too late?

They're nice enough to you on the small stuff, but when the worst happens, they kinda leave you high and dry... Has anyone had a positive experience with an insurance company when actually making a substantial claim?
