City Link ~ opened parcel..advice?

Hi all

Was wondering if anybody could steer me in the right direction regarding this..

My son ordered an item from Amazon last week, and this evening my next door neighbour knocked on the door with the parcel, however it has been opened, it isnt a fault with the sellotape, it has been cleanly sliced through the middle of the tape across the box and left completely open, now my neighbour is totally honest and has stated when City Link man delivered it the parcel was already like it and she mentioned this to the man and all he said was 'sorry, but I just deliver the parcels'
My son has checked the tracking details on their website and it states they tried to deliver parcel yesterday at 9.26am but failed (NO CARD OR ANYTHING WAS LEFT) and re-delivered successfully today at 9.12am, altho again, no card was left in my front door to say this had been done.

From what I think in my opinion, when they got no answer yesterday, the guy thought he would check the parcels contents, decided it wasnt to his liking and took it back with him therefore forgetting to write out a card, and re-delivered today.I cant see any other explanation as to how a parcel could be opened like that if all they were doing was 'delivering' it

does anybody have any idea how my son would go about making an enquiry about this, it is worrying if parcels are being opened by City Link via Amazon order, there is nothing on the Amazon site or City Link site regarding opened parcels, so thought I would ask you guys on here :)

Thanks

its likely citylink will blame amazon so id say your best complaining to amazon.

detailing the tracking info and lack of card.

Personaly it looks like your neighbour had a little peak, But it is possible that the city link man was feeling a bit lucky :D

Like chuckley said, contact amazon. But i would also contact city link!

    Awkward situation!

The delivery 'attempts' may not be directly related to the 'loss' of the contents. Frequently couriers will log a parcel as 'delivery attempted' because it is on a time guaranteed service - perhaps a pre-9.30am service in this case? If they don't deliver or 'attempt' to deliver then for some firms the drivers themselves lose out so even if they have no chance of getting to the address in time they will log that they tried to deliver but couldn't and surprise, surprise the recipient has no card.

It is a pain in the backside but if you get a parcel that has been opened (by accident or otherwise) the best thing to do is refuse to accept it. If you can get a picture of it on your mobile phone even better. Then contact the seller and state that the parcel has been refused because it had been opened. It it then down to the seller and courier to resolve. If an opened parcel is accepted then there is the potential for the seller saying well it was signed for without record of any damage.

Now that many couriers use handheld terminals I don't know if you would have the ability to sign for something stating it was damaged/opened.

For resolving this I think your son should just contact Amazon and kick up a fuss - his contract is with them not City Link so it's up to Amazon to sort it.

    Good luck.

You have absolutely no evidence WHATSOEVER as to who actually opened the parcel...do you? If the contents were complete MOVE ON and forget it!

City Link are the worst courier I have encountered, and when I look at items on ebay always confirm that items won't be sent with them before bidding.

Working for an internet based firm my advice to customers is not to sign for an item that is open or damaged. Or sign for it as precisely that.

Since the item has been delivered and signed for you really have nothing further that you can do as it has been signed for in this condition.
I know that that is frustrating and annoying but sadly that is exactly what most couriers state.

We used to used CityLink but got rid as they were useless for lack of a better word. Multiple 'delivery attempts' yet no card.

absolute TRASH! for all you know the item is damaged and only noticed when opened! the packaging could be perfect but once opened everything damaged.

I cant see your company lasting long with that attitude!
