I tried to get £1k out of Nationwide without notice back in December.
Was told I could only have £500 over the counter without 48 hours notice.
However did manage to get £300 out of ATM.
So had to go back next day to get last £200.

I didnt think £1k was a large sum these days - I was wrong!

Holding cash is very costly, and relatively difficult for smaller branches such as though you'll find for Nationwide - they can't fit a "big vault" which in turn limits how much they can reasonably hold, both physically and for insurance purposes. Obviously, this isn't the only reason, though.

Nationwide just seem to issue cheques instead.

Over the last 6 weeks we have withdrawn £3500, £1500 and then £2500 today over the counter at NatWest with no notice and no trouble in doing so.

Had withdrawn £1800 from my LloydsTSB account the other day, without any IDs, just with my card and pin. It was their largest branch in Norwich though.
  • I withdrew £2000 from my local (small) barclays last year with my debit card and didn't give them any notice.
Trying to only spend money when I absolutely have to.
Barclaycard: £4559-1500 = £3059 (Will have £900 to add to that end of September)
    Loan from Friend = £2000
