Notice for "large" withdrawal

Hi,
I'm looking to make what is to me a faily large OTC cash withdrawal from my Barclays current account - £1000.
Do I need to give notice to withdraw this, or is that only for very large sums?
Cheers,

I would say give them a few days notice just to be on the safe side and to avoid disappointment if you just pitch up unannounced and they cant/wont give you the money!0

Naa, Barclays will have this and you'll have no problems if you have the right ID.43580

Hi, for any withdrawals of £800 or over, Barclays would ideally like at least 24hrs' notice so as not to disappoint you. This is not to say the funds wouldn't be there anyway, but all you need to do is call telephone banking who will fax the relevant branch for you.
If you need specific denominations, the more notice you give, the better chance you stand at getting them.
Hope this helps!0 -
Why? It is your money. Sure if 1000 people in front of the branch demand all their money guarantee BANKS will in trouble0

There's a limit to the amount of cash that can be held in a branch (for security and insurance reasons, and also as that money isn't earning the bank any money). So most banks will limit the amount you can withdraw from each account per day without giving notice, e.g. at Halifax you can have up to £1200, and it seems that at Barclays the limit is £800. You can always get more if they are aware of the need in advance though.0 -
Having to give notice for £1k seems a little bit funny... I give out a few times that each day with no notice required so long as the correct ID and slip is presented. £20k i could imagine needing notice for, but £1k.. pfft.0

Having been a cashier in the past and then run several branches, I have never known anywhere to not have £1000 to give out.
If you need specific notes (fifties, hundreds for the Scottish branches) it's best to ask ahead of time, but £20/£10 notes could be done absolutely fine.
In summary, no, you don't need to ask. What would William Shatner do?0 -

You do know that banks aren't actually like in the movies, right? There's no massive vault with stacks of cash or gold.
Banks will send the money paid in away - then it gets sorted and sent out to be re-issued in ATMs, etc. They do this because it affects insurance for the branches, and a whole host of other reasons.
As such, you can't just pitch up and expect to get whatever you like, "your money" or not. For all you know, they might have sent their reserve stock away that morning and not had anything paid in to cover your request yet. What would William Shatner do?0 -
I suppose in summary, if you need the cash on a certain day and there's time to give notice, it doesn't hurt - but if you suddenly need the cash they're likely to be able to give you it (but not 100%)0

Most of the clearing banks will have the cash to hand, building societies and ex-building societies usually have a lower limit. I managed to get £1700 from the coop bank with no notice (they didn't even ask for id, just 2 digits from my security code, I suppose a fraudster would only have a 1 in 100 chance of getting it right)...0
