So sorry that you had to have Tiffany put to sleep, but how kind of you it was to do your best for her.
So many people just wouldn't have bothered.0 -
So sorry to hear about Tiffany but you did your best.0

Aaahhhh Poor wee thing.
But you went that extra mile which so many people wouldnt0 -
Ys you did the right thing.I have taken frogs, birds and hedgehogs to the vets to be put down rather than leave themto die a miserable slow and painful death in the wild when i have found them sick or injured.
the vet was right,it was a wild creature and we have no right to keep them captive.0 -
Aww RIP Tiffany, you did the best you could for her & the Vet was quite right, it's cruel to keep wild animals as Pets, I hope now she's free from any pain & i'm sure she'd have been greatful for the care you gave to her, many would'nt have bothered0

Poor wee thing, thank you for doing what you could for her, as previous posters have said, many wouldn't bother.
Just out of interest, did the vet say what kind of mouse she was? I was wondering about her being round and cute, what colour was she, could she have been a doormouse? My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead

I said that I'd be more than happy to keep her and look after her as a pet, but the vet was ademant that you can't do that with wild animals - they never get accustomed to being a pet and they suffer mentally from the restrictions.
I must admit I was surprised by this last statement, but that may have just been me and my wishful thinking.
Ian, this does happen and Ive seen it happen with birds before.
We found a rook with a damaged wing once and he was very happy living with us (we had an avairy from when we kept cockatiels in it) for a few months. Then he got better and couldnt hack captivity (started going nutty in cage and plucking).
He'd been to the vets once before who said he was happy for him to stay with us while he was recovering, but this time said he wanted to release him.
So we took him straight to the woods were we found him and off he flew
Although its a shame little tiff was put down, at least shes happy now

My friend took an injured wild mouse as a pet...she recovered physically but seemed to become depressed and died after a short while...I'm not convinced keeping wild things is a good idea.
well done for caring though, at least she had a quick end rather than long drawn out suffering.August grocery challenge: £50
Spent so far: £37.40 :A0 -
Aw, poor Tiffany. At least you gave her a chance though, I don't know many people who would do that. I would but I'm the world's biggest soft touch.0

I'm sorry to hear about little Tiffany but well done for taking her to the vet, so many people wouldn't. I do agree totally about not keeping wild animals as pets too, it really isn't fair.Ho hum. I went to Pets at Home to get cat & dog food but resisted the temptation to look at mice/hamsters - doing something on the rebound is never a good idea.
If you are seriously thinking about pet mice please please consider rescue over buying from a shop, small animal rescues are saturated right now following a huge mouse rescue effort at the end of last year so you'd have plenty to choose from!!!:heart2: Mumma to DD 13yrs, DD 11yrs & DS 3 yrs. :heart2:0
