Digital Video Camera - where can I get a driver?

Hi Folks, I hope you can help.

We recently purchased a JVC Digital Video Camera GR-D240 as posted on here. It works fine.

We want to be able to download our videos to our PC, so I've bought and installed a DV card, which seems successful - through the device manager it tells me that it is working correctly. :)

However, I plug the DV cable into the PC, and into the camera, and nothing happens. Do I need a driver for the camera, and if so, where can I get one from? :embarasse I've done a search online to no avail, and the JVC website has some downloadable drivers, but none that seem compatible for our model. I've tried with Windows Movie Maker and with ULead, but no joy.

Any ideas?

Georgina

  • You shouldnt need a driver for the camera. I have a JVC and plugs into the DV card. I use Pinnacle Studio and capture the output. Its automatic.

Oh. Any ideas why it won't work then? I've tried using different DV cables and using alternate sockets (just in case there is a fault somewhere), but still no joy.

Silly question but... Did you turn it on after plugging in.

Turn the camera on? Yes, I've tried it on 'Play' and 'Record' mode.

I'm sure I'm just not doing something right, like having it in the right mode.

    Any other ideas anyone?!

I've registered with driver guide but they don't seem to have a driver for that exact model.

I'm getting really frustrated now - I've tried lots of things to no avail!

OK, when you say you installed a DV Card, could you describe exactly what sort of DV Card? Who is the manufacturer, and what is the model name?

I would guess that it's a Firewire card??
Of course, I may just be talking b****cks!

Hmm. I can't remember off the top of my head - I'll have to have a look when I get home. I got it from eBuyer, and I think it was about £8-10 (it's not a Belkin one, but had good reviews).
