Back to the topic! I use a mixture of sugar and cooking oil. Seems to work quite well and then needs to be followed with washing up liquid or soap or things fall out of your hands for the rest of the day.0

Also back to the topic - I usually find borax easily in Wilkinson's; they always seem to stock it, usually in a plain white 500g box with navy blue printing. Similar box with bicarbonate of soda too, and they're usually on the bottom shelf along with the other OS cleaners such as Stardrops, Vim and Gumption.0

Try cheap washing up liquid mixed with a spoon of sugar. The sugar granules help get out oil really well - ideal after cleaning your bicycle.0
