Overcharged at hairdressers?

I recently went to the hairdresser (stupidly I didn't enquire on prices before) and I had some highlights done and at the end I was charged £71. I know I should have queried it then but I am not very assertive and I let it go. I looked around and saw prices the only price I could see was £50. Now its been playing on my mind so I phoned up today didn't say who I was and asked about the price of highlights and was told that they are £50 and when I specifically said is it different for long hair she said yes £55.

I know I need to do something Im just not sure what.

Please be nice to me I suffer from depression, anxiety and post traumatic stress.

I am thinking I need to phone again and ask to speak to the manager and query it with her. Im just not quite sure what to say...

Did you have a cut as well as highlights? Half head or full?

I have half head highlights and a cut and blow dry and it costs between £70-75. It also depends on what level stylist you had.

It sounds as if the price shocked you - were you not prepared to pay that much for it? Does it seem worth the price now you've had it done? These are all things I'd consider before pushing the matter further.

Sorry if that sounded a bit blunt! :)

    Hope it helps.

    Thank you GrammarGirl

I just had highlights (full head) (Id had a cut a couple of weeks ago) I guess I am only really shocked as its been ages since I had anything done to my hair.

I am quite happy with the results (Ive even had a few compliments!)

I know its not a huge deal, but I am giving myself a hard time for not querying it at the time!

Give them another call and tell them you thought they had made a mistake. They would rather you made a call than just never go back again.

Why not go back and just say "I think you made a mistake in charging me. Your standard charges are x y z".

Be nice to them and I am sure they will be fine about it.
  • I know how you feel, i did the same thing 2 years ago. I had full head colour, half head foils and cut/blow dry. My hair is short at the back, as it at my ears and then gradually goes longer as it comes around to the front of my face.

£95 it was, i nearly fainted. I as well hadn't asked the price in advance, but i soon found out why, i got the 'middle' hair dresser.

Where i went to depended on stylist experience and i got someone who fell into the middle catergory, so god knows what i would of paid for someone who was at the top of experience.

I never went back to that hairdressers.

I recently paid £65 for a full head colour, half head foils and cut/blow dry. I was really happy with that.

Thank you simpywimpy and Tozer, I think I will phone them again tomorrow and query it. Im a bit scared of confrontation, but as long as I am calm Im sure things will be ok.

I will put that on my list of things to do.

Don't even see it as a confrontation. I'm sure they will say "oops - our mistake".

    Let us know.

    Thanks continualdiamond

I think I would have fainted at £95! In reality I would have just said thanks and never gone back.

    Right my action plan

Query and shop around in future! AND in future ask prices before!

    Hindsight is wonderful!

I gave over my debit card to pay the £95 very very slowly. My OH didn't believe me when i told him the price, it wasn't even a flashy hair dressers, just a new one that had gone into town so thought id try them out.

I then rang them when i got home and asked their prices and then felt like such an idiot when i got told they had 3 levels of stylists and each fetched a different price.

When i just had my hair done about a mth ago i rang 3 different salons for prices and felt sooo much better knowing in advance what id be paying.
