Hello
My girlfriend recently passed here driving test and is in the market for a car. Im wondering what the best route of gaining finance for this is she is in part time employment but im sure will be hit hard on a finance deal through a dealer. Is there a better option i could look into??
Thanks in advance

save up for one0

Why does she need to spend £6k on a car? Why not buy a cheaper run-about initially.
Has she been saving up for the time when she passes her test and thus have some money put to one side?
There are the super balance transfer credit cards that you can investigate; however because she is a student, her credit limit is likely to be quite low and thus not really a viable route if she wants an expensive car.0 -
I'd love to be aboe to buy her one but its not an option at this moment in time. Its just a case of finding the most cost effective route to get a car in the shortest time possible0

And you want to spend £6k? Get out.0

Bearing in mind what she'll be paying for insurance, spending £6K on a car is just crazy if you have to borrow for it.I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0

its about having a vehicle that is reliable, safe and most importantly something she feels comfortable driving. therefore we have earmarked a car that ticks all the boxes. we realise there is going to be a premium for gaining finance on such a vehicle but all im asking is for advice on the most cost effective route to obtain it.0

She sounds a bit of a madam. You can get a safe reliable car for £1000 as most people do for their first car.nickb_2581 wrote: »its about having a vehicle that is reliable, safe and most importantly something she feels comfortable driving. therefore we have earmarked a car that ticks all the boxes. we realise there is going to be a premium for gaining finance on such a vehicle but all im asking is for advice on the most cost effective route to obtain it.0 -
You stand about as much chance of getting a personal unsecured loan as you do dealership finance, so you could look into that - neither seem too likely for a student (albeit working part time) looking for 6k.
I know it's not what you want to hear, but have to agree with others that 6k is OTT for a first car. My GF got a 3 year old decent spec clio in good condition for 3.6k from a dealership, including the next years' service, MOT, a years' breakdown cover etc.
Wish I'd done similar - I borrowed more for my first car and was crippled by the repayments for 3 years.0 -
Have to agree with the above - even if you are not savvy about cars and don't feel you can get one for £1000, the absolute maximum you need to spend is surely about £3000, which will give you quite a new & reliable car, for which most dealers will give you a warranty.
I recently bought a car for £3000 & there are some bargains out there. Ended up with a lovely Yaris, but I could have bought so many at or below that price.[STRIKE]DFW Nerd number 729[/STRIKE]Debt Free & Proud0
