Any gardeners here that could give me tips for planting a border along my garden.
There is a border there allready but i,m going to skim the top 3 inches off and mix in
some fresh soil/compost then buy some potted plants. What i want to know is do i buy
standard compost and do i put the potted plants in loosley but pat around them to firm
    the soil around them??

It's my easter project lol.. got a bald patch on the lawn that i'm going too buy some turf for
and do that as well. Also i want some colour so what hardy plants live in any type off soil.

Rog trust the vicar the dullness will soon go.

I'm surprised that anything will grow in your garden, clio - with the weather you get, it must be more like the Sahara Desert, rather than 'England's green and pleasant land'. :rotfl::rotfl:

And it's raining here now.

Thinking of changing my religion.

clio ... the Greenfingered Board on here is excellent on just about every gardening topic, or try these:

Main site and ideas on plant types:

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/gardening/

    Where to go for basics:

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/gardening/basics/techniques/

My 2p - hope it helps: Mix both "Soil Conditioner" with some "Manure" - can't tell you about prices in your area - but start at say "B&Q" and get an idea, and then see what else is available at lower prices in your area - and you should be "double digging" to get the best results and using the "mix" as you go.

Yes - plant whatever, and firm the soil down all around the plants, and water well.

    And to nargleblast

Thanks for everyone's good wishes on my birthday. My OH is paying for a full inside and outside valet on my car, so it will be showroom-fresh again. My son bought me the DVD of Mamma Mia so I watched it this afternoon and made inroads into the Easter chocolate. A couple of people have said my cards/presents are on the way - they forgot there is no post Good Friday, so I have something to look forward to tomorrow maybe. I also managed to put a line of washing out and get it dry between titchy little raindrops (sad or what?)
Well, can't be idle all the time! Oh, by the way, this naughty thread was lurking on page 2 again.

    Hi everybody.

Over the last few weeks we have had a number of "troll" attacks on the boards.

What is a Troll? A troll is a person that posts deliberately provocative, nasty or hurtful comments on threads. They may be a person with no previous connection to the board or someone that has created a pseudonym to get their point made.

If you should get a comment made on any thread you post asking for help and advice please realise this comment is not directed at you personally.
We really are all a lovely bunch here (oops, modest, sorry) so please ignore these nasty comments and continue to post here as normal.

what should i do if i get a comment made on my thread?

firstly do not respond to the comment as this invariably is what the person wants. At the bottom of the post, on the left hand side is a red "warning" triangle. Click this and then "send" the message that comes up. This will report the message to abuse who will review it's content and delete it.

The person we had this morning was particularly vile and nasty and please believe me is an extreme rarity here.
Above all PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE THE BOARDS. THIS SITE IS AN ASSET TO SO MANY, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT FEELS THE WORLD IS FALLING IN ON YOU. THERE IS SUCH A WEALTH OF ADVICE HERE TO BE HAD THAT THE COMMENTS OF ONE MUST NOT DETER YOU FROM AVAILING YOURSELF OF THE KNOWLEDGE HERE!!!!

It is testament to the work that martin has done and continues to do that so many people give their time knowledge and experience freely to others, without judgement, to lift people out of the depths of debt crisis

PLEASE DO NOT LET THE ACTIONS OF THE MINORITY RUIN THAT.

    Kind wishes
    P

And time for one of these.
