Arinsal,Andora skiing holiday clothing?

Great news, just got tickets through for a £3000 skiing holiday to Andora with a competition with the daily mail ski and snow mag (so comps DO work). Just wondering what clothing i will need and if anyone has any tips? I have gone for the snowboarding instead of skiing oooppps. Everythings pretty much included apart from the clothing.......equipt,lift passes, crutches etc.

cheers

  • Hey thats great.

Depends to some extent when you are going but you will need.
    -Ski/snowboard jacket.
-Padded trousers/salopettes(trousers + braces). If you can find trousers with reinforced and waterproof patch on the backside this would be good because you are going to spend some time sitting down when learning to snowboard!
-Then think about a couple of layers to go underneath preferably something that will wick moisture away from the body.
-Its worth investing in a good pair of waterproof/breathable gloves.
    -A warm hat is essential.
-A good pair of waterproof boots for walking around the resort.
-A couple of good pairs of ski/snowboard socks.

Other than that all you will need is casual clothes for evening.

Most people have already purchased their gear so there isn't much about on the high street but what is left is reduced. Try TK Maxx, Asda, Tesco, Aldi and Lidl.
Look to see if you have a local ski/snowboard specialist shop, our local one is having a sale in about a week. Most shops also do hire packages if you don't want to buy. Also ebay is a good source of gear at reasonable prices.

Do a search as this topic has come up several times before.
  • Congratulations on winning the holiday!

I would also recommend a good pair of sunglasses or goggles protect your eyes. The snow is highly reflective and you will need protective eye wear even on cloudy days.

If you do not get what you want here, the gear is relatively cheap out there, should be sales on now. You also need a hat also to keep the sun off your head. It is a tax free area, so take some money or cards to bring back a few bargains back (fags and booze).

  • The pyrenese can be very cold if the weather gets nasty, I have been in some very unsavory conditions in Pas de la casa. Would certainly recommed goggles and I would purchase a thin fleece balaclava from Millets to put in a pocket when needed. When the wind gets up, ice can really burn.

My boys are going on a skiing holiday in a couple of weeks, we got some really good bargains on gloves, socks and salopettes at Sports World.
  • Thanks everyone.... went to Bicester village yesterday and got most of the items suggested in helly hanson outlet some were 75% off. Only problem now is im gonna have no space for duty free shopping (some people are never happy eh)
    thanks again

  • i just wear thermals with snowboarding trousers, a jumper a snowboarding jacket when i go. Also a hat and snowboarding gloves.
Goggles were too much hassle and didn't help at all, wore them once for about 2 minutes.

I went to Sierra Nevada a few weeks back where it was hitting -13. The mornings were baltic but as the day (11 onwards) gets on you wish you were wearing shorts as it gets unbelievably hot when the clouds clear and the sun comes out.

Take sunglasses as well, preferably plastic ones with the headband / strap so they don't fall off.

Also if you're thinking of doing it more often than this trip i'd advise investing in a pair of boots as the ones you rent are usually cheap and terrible.

    Hi
Just returned from Arinsal on Saturday conditions are excellent you can either obtain a discount card more or less 10% off every thing by visiting http://www.vallnord.com/index.asp?idioma=1 or if you go to the Vallnord office you can get one there enjoy

Wear your jackets for the flight out. We always do it and it saves you about 1/4 of the space ;)
