    Hi fay
the stuff on your list looks okay. With the stuff from Tesco is that for getting at home? Presuming you aren't going to bring stuff back that is same price in Orkney.
Also don't underestimate the amount of space you will need especially if you bring paper products back.
I shop for 6 months and then top up with fresh veggies, etc - like you I cook from scratch so my storecupboard is mostly ingredients type stuff. I also have two freezers and another 3 kitchen cupboards full of stuff.

Basically 6 months food dry goods and tins will look like this:and surprisingly at the end of the 6 months quite a lot of it will still be there, and you will just need to top up what has been used. Much easier to keep track of your consumption when you strt with a full cupboard than starting with an empty cupboard and keep buying stuff every week etc - you are never sure how much stuff you have gone through. Trying to keep food budget under £8oo this year - so far on track and my veggie growing will boost things in summer.

That cupboard is three feet deep;) and we had to use thick worktop for the shelving so it wouldn't buckle under the weight of all the tins etc.

SP_A0117.jpg There are about 50 assorted jars of HM jams, chutneys, marmalades and pickles in there too. :)

The big one is actually in the hallway and used to be the coat cupboard/junk hole until I made it into a storecupboard. I live in a 2 bed flat!!!:D

SM and Cleosmum, well done both of you on your weight loss, i can imagine it is a hard thing to do so its even better that you have both cracked it.

Lily, fab news on soon becoming debt free.

fay, can not advise on storecupboards, not my area of expertise, but glad you are getting the info that you need and with growing your own, your grocery budget will continue to fall.

My rocket seeds have grown, think i planted way too many though, couple of the italian spinach have come through, so am very happy with my little seeds!! I just have to think about what the next stage is, but i will wait until they are all much bigger and have a good root growth, as per your instructions!!

Cloes mum - incredibly well done woo hoo xxxx

SM - what an impressive cupboard - We have a garage which is really empty and an empty attic

I cant get most value stuff at the tesco here as its teeny - but yeah I am going to go and get the things I can get here.

I also have looked at prices online and here and we are MORE expensive than quoted tesco prices for most things.

The only value bits I can get is stuffing, and odd random things like fizzy water, foil etc

I am in love with your store cupboards - its really hard sorting it out and thinking OK we eat a pasta dish a week etc etc etc. I think we'd be OK in a commune at yours!!!

PS ta for having a look and showing your photos - I have to take a photo of the freezer - DD added '??!! Blackbird!!??' to the list on the outside of the freezer here - lol:rotfl:
Total debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there.
Total debt as of 28/4/19 £7867.38:eek:
    minus 112.06 = £7755.32:money:

  • PS I put it into a comparison site and it came out at about £300 - so if I budget for £300 dead for the stores - (£50 a month for 6 months) realisitically I need to work out my fresh food and meat budget.

Hi Andan - yeah hoping that growing our own will really cut into next 3-6 months - we have enough room to store tatties, roots etc and freeze tonnes -

I guess buying local produce does kick into the budget a bit - but its great and since bare bum barbara and margot's arrival we haven't bought any eggs since september and tend to just work within our egg budget set by the hens - (although we may shortly have 2 new inmates (I mean house guest hens)) :) its all in hand.

I printed off the OS year planner - did any of you see it in the weekly mse thing?

Looks really helpful and there was a great link to the seasonal food site.
