PC still crashing!

Hi. Ive started a new thread as my problem is now different to the op.
I have an 8 year old mesh with a a7v8x motherboard. I upgraded the original 2*256 pc2700 ram to 1*1gb pc3200 and after about an hour of running it will crash, regular as clockwork.
I ran memtest (?) today for 8 hours and got 1500% with no errors. Strangely my pc didnt crash at all during this time even tho i opened some memory hungry apps to test. But, when i stopped memtest, after an hour the pc crashed!
Any idea what is going on? I got the ram on ebay and it is returnable. How come memtest says its not faulty? where does the problem lie? I dont want to buy more ram from somewhere else only to have the same prob.
The manual does say that ram from non-recommeded vendors may not be suitable, is this the problem? I cant find anywhere on the asus website to buy ram or even to find out which ram is compatible, does anyone have a link?
Thanks

That is actually really odd
Put the 2*256s back in and run as normal. if theres no problem then clearly you need some better memory:idea:0 -
Check whether the RAM is ECC or Non-ECC.I've found weird problems from installing a type of RAM that's the same except for the ECC part, even though my motherboard says its compatible.0

This says there are only 3 RAM types that are guaranteed to work.
They are:-
Samsung PC3200 512MB M368L6423DTM-CC4
Samsung PC3200 256MB M368L3223DTM-CC4
Kingston PC3200 512MB KVR400X64C25/512
Doesn't sound good.

So if there are only 3 types of ram suited, and all of them are pc3200, and my comp only has 1 dimm support for pc3200, and the ram available is only max 512, then that means that i'll be no better off than i am with my original 2*256 :rolleyes2
So basically I cant upgrade my pcs ram
I will try that vendor pps have mentioned (Crucial) as they reckon they have 1gb thats compatible.
This is most annoying as when my pc is working its noticably faster!0 -
You cant go wrong with crucial. If it doesnt work you send it back (And they ARE memory specialists)
Though id be tempted to go with PC2700 as opposed to 3200:idea:0 -
I've taken out the new RAM and put in the old RAM back in . When I swich the PC on the first black screen says 'Warning CPU has overspeed'. I cannot then go any further.
Help!0 -
Go in to BIOS Setup.
Select Advanced and have a look at first four settings.
CPU Speed etc

Hi onepound
As I mentioned in your original post ASUS mobos are a bit picky about the ram. I would first check the BIOS, go to Advanced > Chip Configuration > SDRAM Configuration and make sure this is set to "By SPD". Then go back in Advanced to 'CPU Speed' and make sure this is set to "AUTO". Then look at 'Memory Frequency' which may be set to 'AUTO' and manually change it to "333".
See if this helps0 -
Hi
My bios doesnt look quite like the manual, many options are greyed out, im attaching some pics, can you advise which options i should change. I will attach pics in another post as the internet keeps throwing me off (since this ram issue).
My pc is still crashing frequently or giving me the message 'Warning CPU has overspeed'.
Have i seriously damaged my pc?0 -
