I was with my Ex for many years & stayed for a lot of years when I was unhappy & downright miserable I stayed for many reasons, but they were all "other peoples" reasons eg not upsetting family, friends etc

After 15 years I realised I was allowed to be happy in my own right & decided to end it, but then fearful of how he might react I messed about instead of telling him straight, and let him believe our problems could be solved when I knew they couldn't (cruel of me I know) Eventually I couldn't take it any more & told him straight it was over. His response?? He replied "if that's what you want" and that was it.

All my agonising that he would fall apart or hurt himself & there it was... over.

Now we are actually great friends, we speak daily when he calls the kids and is "uncle" to my DS with my new partner. We often all drop in for coffee when picking up the kids after the weekend.

What I was getting at before this became a bit of a ramble is Tell him straight, once the shock wears off you may find it's a bit of a relief for both of you.

    Good Luck
Thanks to all who post comps :A :T
