£35 administration fee from Enterprise for a speeding ticket!!!

Options
My mother recently recevied a speeding ticket whilst driving at 82mph in an Enterprise hirecar returning from a holiday in Scotland which she is not disputing but upon her return she was shocked to receive a standardised letter from Enterprise stating that were going to charge a £35 administration fee to her registered debit card as in the contract it stated that an administration fee may be charged if any driving offences occured whilst driving the vehicle.

The £35 charge is not a penalty for causing a driving a offence whilst in their car it is administration charge of £35 which is disgraceful for a standardised letter with a photocopy of the speeding ticket!

Do you think that this is similar to banks charging £25 admin fee for going overdrawn? Do you think that she should not pay this? Has anyone been in a similar position and any advice would be much appreciated

It is their admin fee for dealing with the NIP and associated paperwork, and will be detailed in the T&Cs on the hire docs.

When your mother receives her own NIP, point her in the direction of pepipoo.com.You can still go unsigned in Scotland.

Whilst the charge sounds a bit excessive there is some work involved such as finding out who was driving, filling in a form to report who was driving to the camera police etc, probably about half an hours work. It does seem a bit much but I expect it's all covered in the contract.

Yep this has been in place for many years. And when you think of them having to deal with the NIP, find out who it is and post it to them and then ensure that it is paid, because it is them who is in trouble if it isn't. I think £35 is a perfectly reasonable charge for all the trouble they've been put to.
