    Hello Hawksmuir

Thanks to the superb information this website provides, I signed up with the Mailing Preference Service and I've never had a piece of junk mail since.

    I hope that helps.

Apparently, you can use some these pre-paid envelopes for your own mail. i.e. Just cross out and change the address written on the envelope!!!

Never tried it myself but what a great moneysaving idea if it worked!!!

What do you fill them up with? I know what I'd like to fill them with but I'm not sure if you can legally post it.

Someone tried it on me. They needed an A4 envelope to send me something so used another company's freepost envelope, changed the address and I had to pay the postage when it arrived plus a one pound penalty.

However, that some person has done it a few times in the past with stuff sent to me and got away with me paying no extra. Seems a bit and miss.

That's fraud and can lead to a charge for the recepient as stated above.

Also some bulk mail is sorted by a sort of barcode rather than the address, so it still gets to the company who the envelope belonged to. I used to work in the BT finance dept, and we often got other peoples mail where they had reused the envelope without paying postage, so it just got put in the bin.
Here I go again on my own....
  • I used to stuff all the contents (including envelope) into the prepaid envelope and send to:

    Direct Mailing Association'
    1 Margaret St.
    London.

Got this address from a Watchdog programme where they were talking to a guy from the DMA who produce the lists with our names on.
After many weeks I received a letter 'thanking' me for enquiring about the Mailing Preference Service,(!) and if I completed the enclosed form etc etc.

There is now the odd piece of 'junk' but strangely I do miss stuffing it in the envelopes and imagining the originator of the 'list' receiving junk themselves!!!
