Oh and I only got a fridge a week ago so I had been buying food daily for over a month... bad! I fully intend to try and fit in one weekly shop on say a Sunday then not go anywhere for the rest of the week...

Hello all, I really need to get back on here regularly! I'm currently living on $125 a week so I can save $3000 for a trip back to the UK in June and I'm fairly sure I'm failing :(

I have stacks and stacks of expenses claims waiting, maybe up to $700-900 worth but as I can't access the company expense forms the reciepts are just sitting there... it's so frustrating! I swear I've lost a few too :(

Over here they charge you for using ALL cash machines and not only does the bank operating the ATM charge you, but your bank adds an extra charge too! This means I don't take cash out except for when it's really needed but I also don't look at my account balance either... bad Rob!

Do they charge you for getting money out in-branch also? If not, you could do what i always *intend* to do, and draw the money budgetted for the month, then leaving your atm-card at home?

Gwen: congrats on the successful date! From working in a shop full of them for a year, I can say that climbers generally have *awesome* bodies ;) (not that i spent any boring moments perving on the hot ones or anything...)

Lol, thanks. Did you work in a climbing shop? He is quite into his climbing and from what I could tell, the body was looking pretty good. I want to give it a go myself, so that I too can have an *awesome* body!!! No idea how expensive it is though?

    Hi

How is everybody today? I'm getting on with my mammoth list of tasks, but looking around at the state that is my house and thinking how urgently I need to get my finances/housing situation sorted (like, yesterday). I can't bring a fella back here, he'll run a mile!

I'm going to read the Daily Clicks info I printed out later, after I've been to the shops (to return stuff!), but I've read something about scratchcards. Does anybody know what this is or can point me in the direction of a thread with info on it?

I've been thinking aswell how pleased I am that I stopped lurking on here and began posting. I love it - really great advice, lovely people, everybody's very supportive of each other and it really helps me to focus. Just wanted to say a big THANKS to everybody and hope you're all having a super Sunday!

    Hey there,

I'm ok, bit down. I finally know what is up with me. It's being single and being in debt ha ha! Since I got my job, now I'm just worrying about my living arrangements, lack of social life and lack of boyfriend. Pretty much everything that got me into debt in the first place. It's like what kept my mind occupied all the time for the past 6 months has now gone and left the door open to the original problem from 3 years ago.

At least I know the quick fix isn't spending money this time around! I can pay £1K to my debts a month and still be able to buy myself a couple of bottles of wine, and maybe a top each month. Cash is the way forward though!

Yeah, only on the tills though- I just scanned it through :D I too always meant to give it a go, but was worried of looking like a fool :o
From looking into it, it's not the *cheapest* hobby around, but the starter courses aren't too bad: Obviously i have no idea where in the country you are, but when i looked it up in London, there's a wall that does a beginners course for £60, and in Sheffield there are loads of places- There seems to be a lot of 'bits' that you need which would add up, were you to take it up properly: crash mats, harnesses, rope...

    Hi Gwen :hello:

I too am tackling a big list today  so here's a little 'motivational shove' from me - I got a couple from the lovely people over on my diary and it's helped me tick a few things off :D

    Hi Pink Twirl :hello:

Don't be down on yourself - I think you have turned a corner with the new job! This is a fantastic amount of money to be able to throw at your debts, much more than most of us have (about 5 x what I am able to pay off each month ) You will be able to see real progress and hopefully, this will keep you motivated

Thanks. I'll be able to pay that because my flat is rented out (though the 390 rent doesn't cover the 700 mortgage) and I'm staying with my dad. God I hate it! However, I really don't know what I'm going to do when I'm debt free (apart from not be in danger of going down the pan financially again!). I don't know how the hell I will be able to own my flat and pay the same again in rent somewhere else. I just hope I will be able to sell it in 2 years and be able to buy up here, or rent it out and rent here. I'd need another £5K on my salary. Fingers crossed I can work hard and manage it somehow.

Why is life a series of worries? If only things went easier now and again. :o

    Hi

Thanks. I have gotten rather side-tracked. I've been looking on the Oasis website - arghh! There's so much nice stuff in the shops. I was trying to justify the purchase of a little blouse/shirt thing thats only 15 quid in the sale and has ruffles on the front. They don't have it in my size though - probably a good thing. Right, I need to get on with my list. I've kind of got a longer term plan of action in my head, which is roughly like this:

    1. Keep spending diary for month
    2. Try to reduce spending where possible following analysis of spending diary
    3. Master the daily clicks thing
    4. Work out how to do these scratchcard things
    5. Start listing stuff on ebay
    6. Start matched betting
    7. Possibly contact the council about my council tax band (every other house near me is a band lower - grrrr). Has anybody done this?
    8. Buy stuff from charity shops. I live not too far from quite a wealthy area with lots of big houses and loads of footballers around. Somebody I know went to a charity shop in this village and got a really posh pair of jeans (Seven or something, can't remember, about 200 quid in John Lewis) for about 25 quid. I was thinking about having a look through the charity shops in this village for posh bargains such as these and then selling them on ebay.

Totally know where you're coming from Pink, for ages I've been trying to balance saving up for work on the house and trying to have some sort of life, especially when most of my friends live all over the country - therefore, expensive to see them. It's really difficult, but you'll be debt free before you know it. Once that's done, you'll have a lot more disposable income to sort out your housing situation etc. Keep going! We've all got to keep going!
