But hold on I thought women said a sense of humour was the most important thing? Now you're saying they are looking for a martini-drinking, Aston Martin-driving womaniser with a Scottish/English accent, who looks good in either a dinner jacket or Speedos, and has a licence to kill? AND a sense of humour?

Errr no, what I want is tall, dark & handsome - brown eyes a necessity. English, French, Irish or Australian accent, speedos unnecessary but sense of humour vital. If there's an Aston Martin available then I'll be driving it thank you :D. It's quite simple, I want Johnny Depp & as Bowski is away I can say Brandon too :heartpuls

I think the appearance of all these males coincides with less shoe talk

Hi all, have spent the morning reading the matched betting threads about 10 times each, I think I understand most of it now, but have realised that it certainly won't be getting me a house deposit:rolleyes: It looks a bit too complicated at the moment for me to do anything other than easy bets with step by step instructions.:o

Off to do some tidying and general housework type things and hopefully fill some bags for the charity shop.

Hope everyone is having a good day. icon7.gif

Dan - putting 2 and 2 together and coming up with 5 (mostly because you said you were 34) are you a TV controller and the author (or rather subject) of this ?

    Strong language! Strong language!

    No :p

If you want to, we can try one of the easier bookies in the next couple of weeks. Then you'll know if the theory has 'clicked' or not.

I am only seriously stuck on one thing. I understand how to get the free bet, what I don't get is how you get anything back from that, eg back/lay the bet, but if you back with the free bet and have to lay with your own money, you can't win if it is the lay which is the winning bit, in the example they give on the board you have to bet £50.54 to win £48.01. That is a loss:confused:

When I was about 17 I went through a phase of wanting to be an ATC - I have no idea what I was thinking as I have an absolutely terrible sense of spatial awareness and I have a really bad sense of direction......plus I'm really best at jobs which involve communication and chatting. Mostly I like jobs where I get to chat.

I suppose you could chat with the pilots but really you'd have to be concentrating on a screen.......

Bowski - do you get free pies?? I love a job with a good perk! My current one has rubbish perks....actaully not true, do get a discount at the swimming baths and some companies offer us discounts.

I used to work at a large arts centre and it was the best for perks. Free cinema, theatre, dance, music etc plus our staff passes got us free entry to art galleries over London (i forgot to hand my staff pass back when I left last year ....oops)

Dan - am still completely clueless about your job. Are you based in Wales?? Perhaps something to do with Welsh Assembly??

SBC - your job sounds very technical and complicated. Most impressive!

Right, have done hardly anything today except read, watch telly and am now about to head down to Argos to exchange a towel rail which is broken and do a shop at Tesco.
I've got my own flat :j:j

Now I have to pay the bills

And feed my interiors addiction ;)

When you place a lay bet at Betfair you are really acting as a bookie, taking a bet from someone who wants to back Chelsea or whoever.

You use the spreadsheet to calculate the lay stake you type into Betfair, but you are not betting this amount. It is the amount you're accepting as a stake from the Chelsea fan.

The amount you could lose is displayed in the Lay Risk box, in this case £13.14, and your Betfair balance must exceed this for your lay to be accepted.

So, after the match has been played:

If Chelsea win then your £50 at Coral will have become £61.15, and you will have paid out £13.14 to the punter at Betfair. £61.15-£13.14=£48.01, meaning you have lost £1.99.

If Chelsea don't win then you have lost your £50 at Coral, but at Betfair you collect the £50.54 stake from the punter, minus Betfair's 5% commission. £50.54 minus 5%=£48.01, meaning you have lost £1.99.

Either way, you have qualified for your free bet at Coral, and have to repeat the process using this free bet. Say you make £47.00 from the free £50, your total profit from Coral is £45.01 and you can now move onto the next bookie.

    Does that make sense?

Ok is there anyone on this thread who hasn't wanted to be an air traffic controller? :rotfl:

Yeah I work in Cardiff in a technical capacity for a large publically-funded broadcasting corporation - nothing glamorous..! Used to work for them in London, and before that Bristol. Hope to not be working for them at some point soon :)

I am just stuck on this bit, how do I win with the free bet? I understand how to get the free bet, but then I could place that on something and lose, unless I am using my own money to bet on Betfair as well to bet against myself. If I put the £50 on at Coral do I put £50 (my own money) on at Betfair as well? Or do I put a different amount on at Betfair? That is the only bit I just can't get, it is driving me mad:confused:

Yes, me:D I get confused between left and right, have no spatial awareness, I don't do calm and hate responsibilty. So not really my ideal job.

ok so you have a free £50 bet, and at Coral, you're placing it on Liverpool.

At Betfair you are using your own money but you are taking a bet on Liverpool. In effect you are the bookie at Betfair: someone else wants to bet on Liverpool, and you are taking their bet. This is what 'cancels out' your bet at Coral.

The crucial point is that although you type in £50.54 at Betfair, you are not risking £50.54 of your own money, you will only lose the amount shown in the Lay Risk box of the spreadsheet, in this example £13.14.

So let's imagine we're starting with a free bet in Coral and £13.14 of your own money in Betfair. You back Liverpool at Coral and lay Liverpool at Betfair. Only £13.14 of your money is involved.

    If Liverpool win:
You lose your £13.14 at Betfair.
Your balance at Coral is now £61.15.
You now have £61.15 of real money but it cost £13.14 of your own money, meaning you've converted the free bet into £48.01 of real money that you didn't have before.

    If Liverpool lose:
Your balance at Coral is now £0.
Your balance at Betfair is now £61.15.
You now have £61.15 of real money in Betfair. £13.14 of this was your own money anyway, so you're £48.01 up.

So whether Liverpool win or lose, you have made £48.01 profit.
