    No worries :)

I just wanted to highlight that it all seems a bit unfair and the scheme doesn't seem to be what it was first announced as, IF you've been in a steady job all your life and then get made redundant.. It only helps people who haven't had such a constant job history and that doesn't really seem fair that they get SO much more help.

I must admit, I didn't realise these things didn't apply for people on CB JSA, but I guess it makes sense as it works both ways and they don't count income that may reduce the weekly amount either.

If they gave it all as an automatic entitlement, you could have someone getting their mortgage interest paid, and free prescriptions etc, while their partner is earning £100k per year, or they have £100k in savings for example.

You seem to be confusing the Mortgage interest payment part of Income support and JSA (income based) with the scheme announced by the government for people who have been made redudant and are likely to get new employment in the short term, these are two seperate schemes, AFAIK the newly announced government scheme has yet to be decided upon or come into being.

Yes, there is that and I didn't realise till I got involved in trying to claim JSA recently as info given to me at first was unclear..

If there were savings over 16k you wouldn't get any benefits at all although does this not apply if they are in the partner's name? I'm not sure about rules re partners as I am claiming just for me however. Fair enough if someone has a partner earning that much, I doubt they would go through the interrogation or sheer horror at the benefits office nor need to claim such a piddly amount! All I know is that for a single person claiming CB JSA that is it, the total sum of £60.50 a week to pay for all the bills

I thought the details had already been issued, no? The 'new' rules about getting the help after 13 and not 39 weeks is part of the new scheme isn't it??

For CB JSA, no savings are taken into account at all, even those in the claimants name as far as I am aware.

But for IB JSA all household income and savings are taken into account.

They do look into savings though, if I had over 16k in savings I've been told I would get nothing - they thought I had this as they had made a mistake so I've already been pulled in for a 'private chat' and been accused of having savings I definitely do not have!! The situ there was chaotic and disorganised to say the least though... I have been interrogated throughly and had my bank statements scrutinised for this...

I am sure that is not correct.

You may have to declare savings (I don't know) but they shouldn't affect CB JSA as far as I am aware...

    You are correct BP
  • Yes, it is definitely only JSA(IB) where savings are taken into account so if you were asked for details of savings, you must also have ticked the box to put in an application for JSA(IB) as well as JSA(C) and that's why they asked for the details of your savings. A lot of people do this so that the claim for JSA(IB) is in place already, if it works out that they are not entitled to contribution based JSA.

No you are wrong, the change to 13wks from 39 is exactly that it does not relate to the other echeme at all which will be run thourgh the actual lenders and nothing to do with DWP if they ever actually get it up and running.
