HI there
Does anyone know if you can get the Mortgage Interest paid if you are also recieving Payment Protection from your insurance policy ?
We can claim half of our mortgage payment which will still leave us with over 50% (£400) to find ourselves with only one income now and am a bit concerned.
The policy is joint with 50% cover for each spouse
Any help with this would be great
Thanks to all who help out on this board

I dont have a date for being finished yet but I should know tomorrow. I think I will be entitled to cont based JSA as I have worked and paid in for years. My husband earns £15,400 pa and we have two children, one in nursery and one in school. We already get tax credits and stuff
Thanks

No you would not be entitled to morgage interest payments as this is only available to people claiming income based benefits such as income support and IBJSA.
You should be entitled to contribution based jsa providing you have paid enough NI conts for the previous 2 tax years. You could claim WTC, CTC,CB.0 -

Hi, I have worked continuously since leaving school 16 yrs ago so I think I will have contributed enough lol. I have had two children but returned to work on both occasions.
My PPI is for 12 months, what happens if I dont have a job after then, would I be entitled to it then ? And how long can you claim Cont based JSA ?
Thanks

The DWP do not take in to account how many years you have been paying NI conts they just look at the previous 2 tax years.Krasnoludek wrote: »Hi, I have worked continuously since leaving school 16 yrs ago so I think I will have contributed enough lol. Why is it that if you've actually worked constantly and paid NI credits etc and therefore get CB JSA that you are then penalised and won't get mortgage interest help? I am fed up, if I hadn't worked so much and was on IB JSA, I'd get help with my mortgage, prescriptions, glasses, dentists, again it seems to punish the people that worked harder!
Gordon Brown didn't exactly make this difference clear when the scheme was announced...0 -

I'm not sure you've grasped how it works...
If you were not entitled to CB JSA you would not receive anything at all as your OH is earning!
To receive help with mortgage payments, you'd both need to be out of work and receiving the couple rate of £95ish a week, and then it would only cover the interest on your mortgage, and only after so many weeks.
Because you have paid in, you will receive JSA of £60.50 a week for six months, on top of your OH's earnings and WTC, so I kind of think it is worth it, don't you?0 -

I didn't say I had an OH...
So, I get 6 months of CB JSA at £60.50 a week and no other help.
So in this situ, could you run that by me again what I don't grasp?0 -

Ah right, sorry, I confused you with the OP.
As a single person, you are able to take any job going and that is what I'd advise. Of course, if after 6 months, you are still unemployed, you can go onto IB JSA then but it's not a good idea to be out of work to long imo, as it doesn't look good on applications.0 -

No worries
I just wanted to highlight that it all seems a bit unfair and the scheme doesn't seem to be what it was first announced as, IF you've been in a steady job all your life and then get made redundant.. It only helps people who haven't had such a constant job history and that doesn't really seem fair that they get SO much more help.0
