Most cruelty free brands have a logo on so it's easy to look for the logo!

Not all the logos or 'product not tested on animals' are accurate though. If you want to know if the whole product (and not just the finished piece) is cruelty free check if they have a FCOD (Fixed Cut Off Date).

Ecover isn't actually cruelty free because they operate on a 5yr rolling rule, meaning in 2014 they'll use ingredients that are being tested on animals right now :(

  • I didn't specifically call anyone a hypocrite; I said it would be hypocritical to slate people for buying pet food if they were themselves buying other products from the same companies.

And let's face it, it's extremely difficult to completely avoid all products made by any of these companies. I should imagine most people aren't even aware they are half the time. I certainly couldn't tell you exactly what products each of these companies make, can you?
You asked the two people you quoted why they boycott pet food and not other companies. You didn't ask IF they boycott other companies, you just assumed.

I can't name all the brands that the big companies own, but I don't really buy things from big companies.
    - My toiletries come from two companies that I know have nothing to do with animal testing.
    - My cleaning materials come from three companies that I know have nothing to do with animal testing and all are environmentally friendly, except laundry which is Tesco own brand. I've tried all manner of eco-laundry products but my boyfriend is just too stinky
    - My food is always supermarket brand (and an organic vegbox) apart from Quorn things.
    - I mostly go to Tesco and they don't do or commission animal testing. I'm unsure if they buy from suppliers who test on animals for other people. I'm considering switching to the Co-op for laundry stuff but haven't decided yet.

I think switching to animal and eco-friendly products is like making your diet healthier - you just need to do a bit of research and change a couple of things at a time. It's not difficult at all.

Just as a side note, Tesco own products aren't recommended as cruelty free, sorry! :o

  • Not all eco-friendly and cruelty free products are expensive either, which is a bonus.

It's really not. Anyone can pop along to their websites and see what products they make. Alternatives can also be found easily, some of the supermarket's own brand stuff is cruelty free. Even if people can't avoid all of the products does that mean they shouldn't bother at all? Have you bothered trying at all or are you just making the 'extremely difficult' up because it suits your argument?

    For anyone interested

    Now who's making assumptions? ;)

Do you ever eat out; buy take-aways; wash your hands in public toilets etc?

How can you be certain of the source of any of these products, or that they are indeed free of animal-testing? That is what I meant by saying it's extremely difficult to avoid all of them

And whilst on the subject of animal testing, can anyone tell me who/what the products intended for animals consumption should be tested on ... maybe humans? :rotfl:

Not all animal testing is actually barbaric or harmful ;)

It's called playing Devil's Advocate - to make people stop and think about what they're actually doing/saying - obviously something you're not familiar with

We were talking about buying products used by testing companies, don't try watering it down and shifting the goalposts. My questions weren't rhetorical.

If you're going to try to play devil's advocate at least try to stay consistent and know your subject. You're not actually adding to the conversation, just criticizing people.

However Im of the mind that yes they do this or have done it, but if the end result is what is best for our pet, then morals have to go by the by.

That's fair comment, but at least be informed about the choice your making and at least try to avoid companies who use un-ethical practices.

Im very informed thankyou. I just dont feel the need to shove my moral standards down anyones throat unlike some who post.

No, I just get sick and tired every time I pop my head into the pet board of seeing the same old names spouting the same old crap.
