I found a property on rightmove that I am interested in renting. It's beeing managed by a company called Spericle.
I had a viewing yesterday and the guy kept saying if I gave him £100 he'd secure it for me till the end of April.
I didn't give him the money as I wanted to think about it, I have phoned both the landline and the mobile trying to get hold of the guy to get another viewing so my dad can take a look for me.
Can't get hold of them and the mobile number actually hung up on me.
Have any of you had dealings with this company? I am thinking it is dodgy and was wondering what actions I can or should take?

Well that is what I am thinking but I was wondering if It's possible to report them to anyone?
That has now made me think it is even more dodgy! Had a look at that website and it's all the same contact details*~* My life is a little mystery that I am still trying to solve*~*0 -
I'd also be thinking sphericles...0

They aren't listed as ARLA members (http://www.arla.co.uk/directory/members.aspx) although their blurb says they have "fully qualified staff".
What exactly are you wanting to report them for? Asking for the holiday deposit? Not answering the telephone?
What are you hoping to get? A second viewing? Compensation?0 -
Well no preferably I would like to rent the property but I can't get hold of anyone. I have also just tried to phone the physiotherapy number and it is also saying unavailable.
Surely if it is a big con and they're not actually going to let it out to anyone they are breaking some sort of rule for advertising it to let?*~* My life is a little mystery that I am still trying to solve*~*0 -
I don't actually think that advertising something means it is available. There are suggestions in many of the BTL 'bibles' suggesting that you put some ads in the press to guage demand before buying in an area.
However, showing somebody around a property is more than that. If you feel they are dodgy then it's probably best not to get involved with them. You may have problems down the line with your deposit and inventory and if you can't contact them if there are problems.0 -
thanks for your help, think I will keep looking*~* My life is a little mystery that I am still trying to solve*~*0

How did this pan out? I was doing a search for this firm and came across this thread. I heard the company was set up by an nhs physio who branched out into property room lets (btl pre-crash) and has rather strangely put the two businesses together. They appear to be foreign nationals that are operating the businesses, and specialise in rooms only, at the cheaper end of the market. The reason I was searching for them was because it made me laugh passing their shop; spericle physio, spericle lettings, and property development. A very enterprising (if perhaps niaive) set up!.:rotfl:0 -
They show you round.
They take £100.
You never see them, the cash or the flat again.
They are £100 up.0
