    LOL it is confusing !

R4 was one of the first, the people who made it no longer make it or write the firmware for it, all R4's now arent real just clones

DSTT is the cheapest but alot of fakes about and apparently they can knacker up your DS and tp make it even more confusing there are 2 versions of it made by different people.

Acekard or Edge seem to be the popular choice so i would personally go for those 2, Acekard and Edge seem to write new firmware pretty quickly when they need to cant really go into detail on here.

There are loads of more expensive ones available too.

And if you care to read the DX forums you will see loads of people with DSTT problems and lots of fake cards around ;)

I have read them in fact. If you care to read the romulation forums you would know that a) fake cards can be made to work in your DS via a simple fix and b) a bricked DSTT card can be corrected and c) a bricked card cannot effect your DS console.

I personally have 2 from DX which are 100% genuine and another 2 from Focal point which are the same. (I have run a fake checker and compared them to genuine cards.)

I have 3 DSTT's. 2 were bought from a site called Digizo (they don't sell them anymore), which came in a box. And the latest one I bought was from Flash gadgets and just came in a blister pack.

Not sure if they are genuine but all seem to work fine. The first one I bought, I have been using for nearly 12 months without any problems.

I've bought loads of DSTT cards from DealExtreme for myself and for my mates. Not one has reported any problems. And they certainly don't BRICK your DS, that would imply updating the firmware, which R4, DSTT, AceKard, etc don't!

There appears to be a lot of confusion over which card to buy. Personally, I have used the CycloDS, SupercardOne, AceKard, Edge, R4 and DSTT. All of them play backup DS games and are likely to satisfy most users. The differentials are:

    Features
    Update Frequency
    Skins / user interface
    Reliability
    Price

If all you want to do is play backup DS games, features is unimportant. If you want to have realtime saves, run GBA games from the Slot 2 and have in-game text readers for game walkthroughs - you will need the CycloDS.

The most regularly updated cards are the CycloDS and Edge => this means that they will run the most up to date games before other cards are able.

The best skins are on the AceKard. The best user interface depends on personal preference.

All of the cards have a degree of reliability problems. The most relaible appear to be Edge / AceKard with the least relaible being DSTT / R4.

The DSTT is the cheapest (under £5), the CycloDS is the most expensive (£40). Most cards are now £20 or under and so price is becoming less of an issue.

In terms of the rumours over the DSTT. Fake DSTT cards do exist and if you install the most recent official DSTT firmware to these cards, they will fail. This can be easily corrected by installing adapted firmware with the fake detection switched of. At the moment, the official firmware only effects the card and not the DS. However, DSTT have said they are considering variants which will brick your DS. This means that if you unwittingly purchase a fake DSTT card and install the official firmware, your card will not work and you will need to install the unofficial firmware. The unofficial firmware is less up to date than the official firmware. In future, you could brick your DS by having a fake DSTT card, installing the official firmware and DSTT have carried through their threat.

Personally, I only recommend 1 card for most users - the EDGE. Unfortunately, this may now have been discontinued and you will have difficulty finding one. As an alternative, you should look at the AceKard. The difference in price between the DSTT and the EDGE / AceKard is insignificant given that you get better reliability, more frequent updates and (arguably) a better user interface. If price is no option and you want to get all the features - go for the CycloDS although I think it is way overpriced for what you get.

    Thanks Lowtrawler, that was helpful.

I have asked DealExtreme to change my order from DSTT to an AceKard, hopefully they will do it.
