Thinking of trying to get Sky cheaper for 3 months? Do you think it's worth a try?

We pay the full £42 per month for all the Sky channels, and of course we think it's an astronomical amount to be paying. We have considered dropping some of the channels, but the 3 of us(myself, wife and son) like such different programs etc that one of us would be missing out with the way they tie their channel packages together. Around a year ago we phoned Sky saying we were considering cancelling and they gave us 3 months at half price. We tried the same thing around 4 months ago, but no luck. Do you think it's worth another try? And what's the best way to go about it?

Hi. Some MSE's have previously stated that they will never pay full price for Sky ever again and just ring them up when their reduced rate comes to an end and they are given it again.Maybe you were just unlucky the last time you rang and I deffo think it's worth trying again. When I rang I said I was thinking of changing to cable because they were cheaper and I got offered 20% off for 12 months.Other MSE's have been offered different reductions (3 months half price etc) I think it depends on who you speak to. Go on, ring them you've got nothing to lose.He who smiles rather than rages is always

Yeah try and get 25% discount for the year, some people do get it half price for 3 months and again straight away. It all depends who you speak to.
Make sure you are put through to the right dept, and say you love $ky but the cost it to much for you.
You will get 3 months half price. Even say you are thinking of going to freeview HD.0 -
Now with being so much time on internet, I find that i can live witthout having sky all the time. I wait until sky writes to me with a 3 month half price offer then I take that up. 30 days before Its due to end I ring to cancel. If they cancel me I'm not atall bothered, but a lot of the time I'm given another offer. I think a lot of people don't realise that you get quite a few good channels with digital free to view, such as sky news, bbc3 and 4, itv2, 3 and 4, and one of my favourite channels reality tv with such programes as cheaters (love it) Its funny that one of the favourite tv channels in my home is the hoilday operator ones. OH loves it.
We all can live without shy I think. I will never pay full price again.0 -
I think the trick is to say you're considering leaving Sky, rather than just asking for the discount. Tell them it's too expensive & you're considering cable/freeview instead. If they don't play ball, don't be backed into a corner & cancel, say "I need to discuss it with my OH/family/goldfish & will call you back"0

I was paying £21 for the basic sky package. I called a few days ago to say I wanted to cancel the service (was actually angling for a discount) and to my surprise, the lady said fine, we 'll cancel that for you no problem!!!
During my mini heart attack, she put me thru to another department, with the guy asking again why I wanted to cancel etc etc. He said I "qualify" for a 25% discount, as long as I sign up for another year.
So now I'm just paying £15.75 a month.
To be fair, the basic package, I'm sure, used to cost about that much anyway so not a real discount in my eyes.0 -
just found this code and i dont know if it works or anyone has used it but i hope it helps someone. call 0800 7316965 (option 2 for Customer services from the automated menu), quote ED32 M001 and u will get a half-price upgrade to skyworld for 3 months. u will save over £30.0

When I went to cancel they did almost anything to keep me. In fact the guy was quite rude (I told him my Sky+ box was useless and I'd got shot of it!). He did however promise me a brand new Sky+ box for nada. Previous to that he was willing to give me the package I was on for 2/3 the price for a year.
Unfortuately he was unwilling to do both and that would've been the only thing that would keep me.
I'm now trying to persuade friends and family to try cancelling as they're all paying full whack. Ironically he called me a loyal customer even though this was the second time I'd cancelled (and I've downgraded in the past too) and was only a customer for 3-4 years. My folks have had Sky for a decade and a half (full package all that time) and yet they get no incentives - that's why I'm telling to "cancel"!!!0 -
Similar story here - I had cancelled Sky last summer and was just using the freesat channels when I got the advent calendar offer in Dec (£7.50 a month for the basic package for 3 months, plus £50 Argos voucher). Rang this week to cancel it (really, not just angling for a discount!) but as usual they redirect you to customer retention.
Guy offered me another 6 months at £7.50 so I changed my mind and caved in :j0 -
Thanks for your replies everyone, I'll definetely give it a go! I'll report back when I do.0

Took my own advice and called to cancel sky today. Need to reduce the outgoings !
Used 0800 7316965 and used the options to get to TURNAROUND this is the cancellations dept.
Offered fullpack at 1/2 price for 3 months, then call back for 12 month 25% discount. The only thing to watch here is the 12 month part. They are keen to put you on a fresh 12 month contract. You are having to commit to this term to get the deal.
Saved 3 x £21 = £630
